i’ve struggled with a drug addiction for many years. my mom sent me this song. she’s always been my biggest fan, my biggest supporter. sometimes i feel i don’t let her know how much i truly appreciate her. some of these lyrics cut very deep and are quite emotional, i’m FINALLY about 4 months sober.🎉

Time. Yes. I’m an age I still can’t write. I look in the mirror rarely but when I do I am surprised. It goes by fast… one Netflix movie after another! One hope-absent indulgence after another. One boldly honest and true choice after another. A life made out of which way we choose to lean.

Welcome to the planet Welcome to existence Everyone's here Everyone's here Everybody's watching you now Everybody waits for you now What happens next? What happens next? I dare you to move I dare you to move I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor I dare you to move I dare you to move Like today never happened Today never happened before Welcome to the fallout Welcome to resistance The tension is here The tension is here Between who you are and who you could be Between how it is and how it should be Yeah I dare you to move I dare you to move I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor I dare you to move I dare you to move Like today never happened Today never happened before Maybe redemption has stories to tell Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell Where can you run to escape from yourself? Where you gonna go? Where you gonna go? Salvation is here I dare you to move I dare you to move I dare you to lift yourself To lift yourself up off the floor I dare you to move I dare you to move Like today never happened Today never happened Today never happened Today never happened before

This song got me through rehab and physical therapy after my car was hit by a delivery truck, crushed in half, spun 360 and both wheels broken off......the nurse told me "you realize you were almost killed, someone up there is watching out for you", then in the cab ride home the cab driver said "son, when was the last time you went to church"....Then when I was healing my broken hand with movement exercises this song comes on "I dare you to move, and pick yourself up from the floor"...Tears started streaming down my face....Jesus is real.....He showed me the narrow path in a dream I had......❤Please don't stop loving each other❤....

I found you guys when I was maybe 12 or 13, a bad point in my life (one of many and not the worst as it turns out) and you guys carried me through the rest of a tough childhood and young adulthood. Now, when things are taking a bad turn again, I have God to thank for you guys and BTS. You've saved my life and given me hope again for the thousandth time. I'll never forget the first time I watched this music video. MTV2 Top 20 Countdown and this song was on the list. I was 13 or 14 years old. I got major 9/11 vibes when I watched the guy run past all the people in the mist. My mom had remarried after a nasty divorce, and things were finally looking up for me. Something about these guys were so different from the other bands. I think for the first time I actually heard a good band sing about hope in the midst of other bands who, quiet frankly, were not. Looking back after being a Switchfoot fan for years, I am thankful for little blessings like this to have happened. Thanks Switchfoot, you guys have been a huge influence on me over the years and I love the new album! In Christ, J-Poe

This song is about a man at different stages of his life. It's a Christian theme of how we all stumble upon hard times in life, and about how God dares us to move and get back on our feet. It's about how there's a difference between who we are and who we should be. Jon Foreman, who is Switchfoot's lead singer and lyricist, tells us that it is these challenging moments that produce his best songs. Said Foreman: "When I'm happy, when I'm enjoying life, I'm home, I'm surfing, I'm spending time with my wife, my friends, and maybe we're playing cover tunes - we're playing Tom Petty or The Band, or we're covering Bob Dylan, and I'm not thinking about the pain. And then the moment I encounter something that feels difficult, I feel like that's when, for me, I turn to writing and thinking and maybe a song comes from that."

I suddenly cried watching and hearing this song. I remembered back in 2002 I was around 6 year old hearing this song for the first time when my sister was playing it on her casette tape player making me wonder what life means and gave me this awe of wonders and that haunting feeling through the song made me want to know behind the scenes of this beautiful life God gave me. That time my life was still fresh and now im 25 and realized how God met me through those moments, this song reminds me how innocent I was as a kid, praying to sleep and waking up to a blessed morning as a kid, remembering how my dad and my sister brought this hurt bird into my room and released it the next day after it was okay, at this age I realized my moments of innocence taught me the meaning of life. And now Im crying like a baby, begging God to bring me back home and this time I promise to stay obedient, I cried to God that I dont want to sin anymore and I dont want this darkness ruling over my life. I do hate sin, but sometimes the darkness overcomes me and make me do things that my spirit hates but my flesh desires. But now I realized I just have to fast and pray out loud. Fasting helps me overcome my flesh desires, it helps me be strong in God spiritually to overcome the darkness blinding and tempting me. Sorry my english is bad, this is the only way I can express for now

This song was originally written as a Christian hymn, but somehow it has seen significant success in both alternative and top 40 radio stations at the time it came out. It wasn't as successful as "Meant to Live" but it still remains one of Switchfoot's biggest singles to date. Why, it even managed to make its way to become one of the songs on Now That's What I Call Music! Vol. 17.

Great Song, great video. So many people are running in the wrong direction today, strait into the pit of hell. It takes great courage to run the opposite way and it means leaving much behind that you used to cling to. WHY?--WHAT WAS CHRISTIANITY INVENTED FOR? could it be that jesus knew that the jews were on the path of destruction & still are with their foolish beliefs? heck, they dont or won't for some CRAZY reason separate their weekly recyclable trash cause they're just too dam lazy to do it so it all goes into the landfill--many times we have tried to take their recyclable stuff out of their regular garbage bags but its useless cause they just keep doing it the same way every week--we even tried reporting them to the sanitation dept. & nothing was done about it that all these families on our block get away with doing & not a single fine was ever issued to them, yet they all marry at a young age & have many children per family teaching them the wrong values in life & celebrating foolishly their beliefs.

I'm actually just now watching the video. I mean I've seen it before but I'm actively watching it. I have loved this song for so long and my discernment is getting stronger. I catch the meaning of lyrics. Some of my favorite songs when I was younger was never about what they meant to me before. Songs like this encourage me to move forward and others I can't even listen to all the way through because I pick up what they are laying down. It's difficult to break away from the world and sometimes I find myself lost (willfully because I become depressed that a huge majority will never know or even have an open mind enough to accept the truth) in it again but my heart and soul must be crying out. Listening to this again, knowing all of the words and finally watching the video again as an adult made me slightly overwhelmed. I wanted to cry. Not from sadness but from my appreciation for the one that loved us so deeply that he gave his life for us.

Today, right now, this song just reminded me that God chose me individually, that HE chose me to change my life from all of the suffering I had experienced to this point. July 7"th 2005 would not mean much to others but it did for me. I SO needed this in 2016, words can't explain.

Steve Jonas no explanation is needed , we're each & all broken in one or several ways. I certainly know that I am. and yet because of who Christ Jesus is there is hope. sure haven't found it anywhere else!!

I needed it in 2018, I hope Switchfoot still knows that this song is still such a life-changer. Its like bible verses you've read a 100 times already, but they really pop out to you when you need them the most. Like a holy highlighter lol. Its so great, God is good.

You can always rely on a bible thumping Jesus freak to ruin a good thing.

Today is the 20 year anniversary of the release of this alternative rock hit. Switchfoot dared all to move with them. All certainly did. Truly an epic song/video.

When I was a teenager my love of my life was always off and on again because she had a drug problem and now we are married and this was our wedding song. Hits the heart strings

So many layers in such simple lyrics. Not only applies to picking yourself up after suffering tragedy/loss/depression etc but also, importantly, applies to the concept of being born again as a new creation in Jesus. So beautiful. Makes me cry like a baby every time. I tried to sing the first few lines to my new baby girl and couldn't stop myself from bawling.

Funny story. Me, my sister and friend were watching A Walk to Remember and it was my friends first time watching this movie and me and my sister have seen it a thousand times. So a few minutes before this song comes on we were all holding back our tears and crying silently but the second we hear the beat to this song in the movie we all burst into tears!!! It was so funny I couldn't stop crying and laughing at the same time.

No, its not odd at all. This song gives me goosebumps and has me choking back tears each time. Christ is intertwined in the sound and lyrics.

I'm so sorry to hear about Jerome. I've always been a Switchfoot fan and the music you've brought has gotten me through. I listen to this song because it got me through one of the most difficult parts of my life. I'm with you Jerome. I battle cancer myself. I wouldn't have gotten into music without the band. I'm a Switchfoot fan forever. Love and prayers.
