I lost my wife this year this past March. Cancer. 37 years of marriage. My best friend by far. I spent three months trying to decide how to keep going. Then, somehow I decided to see about seeing Collective Soul in concert after listening to Run. Then there was Switchfoot touring with them. I knew a couple of their songs mainly from Pandora, but that was about it. So, in order to prepare for seeing them with Collective Soul, I started listening. And I was floored. Never in my life have I found such relevant music for me. Song after song. It's like I wasn't supposed to find them until now, in 2022, when I needed them most. What a blessing.

I lost my best friend/wife of almost 22 years December 25 of 2015. Had a 14 year old and a 17 year old. If it weren't for the greatest therapy of all, music, we would have had such despair! My daughters immersed themselves with music with school and personal life. But of course without my faith, I'd be a basket case. So thankful for these artist that help us keep focus! We lost our oldest daughter almost 6 years ago to addiction. My wife and I were raising her 4 kids. Now it's just me trying to do it. We had each other to get through it, though. Unexpectedly, losing my wife has been worse for me. Way worse.

I grew up playing in garage bands and loving the rock music of the 70's. Until recently, my workout playlist was mostly Van Halen and Sammy Hagar. But then I discovered Switchfoot. If these guys had gotten playtime on secular radio stations, they would be one of the biggest bands ever. When I listen to this song, I just remember the time I used to go to work early in the morning (2013), I had to be at the bus stop at 4.45 am to take the bus (418). It was dark and the crowd in the bus was just annoying. But just after leaving the bus terminal, the bus used to drive up a hill of another neighborhood. So a girl would get into the bus. She was so beautiful, with brown eyes, a short black hair and a magic smile. So everything that was terrible, depressive and sad turned into a paradise. I loved that time so much. What a happiness getting up too early to see that girl. Unfortunately, after some months, I moved to another state and did not see her since then. I shared these moments with my best friend while we were in college 8 years back when we discovered this song and this band. Since then a lot has changed and we have grown a lot together. He is still my best friend, but he has moved to a different continent altogether, is married now and is soon planning to have kids for which I am also very excited. Thanks to the wonders of video-calling apps, we are able to talk almost every day or so and can share our life stories with him and his family. We even attended a Switchfoot concert together after 2-3 years of graduating because that's how much this band and this song mean to us. But still whenever I listen to this song, it takes me back to those days when we both were in our dorms, were carefree for the world, were always humming and singing this together or even simply enjoying this song in silence while we were finishing our assignments. This song makes me realize how lucky I am to have gotten a fucking best friend like that in my life. This song reminds me that there are things in life that will always keep on changing but there are some other things as well that will never change no matter how tough it gets. I had never heard Switchfoot before except songs here and there on the radio. They opened with this song when opening for NEEDTOBREATHE this Friday and it touched something elemental within me. It only took about ten seconds of following the lyrics and the powerful choir vocals to realize how special of a song it was. My hope is that I’m able to stand when my time comes, I’m dealing with a lot of issues. But I’m not giving up, my hope is in The Risen one. Pray for me as I continue to walk out my faith.
