Torch is your friend... my BIL just burns them off since by the time he rolls points over or replaces them the heads are half worn through or worse anyway... new bolts and nuts go on quick and easy... Sand wears the heads off badly anyway... he said he tried reusing bolts but found that usually the heads pulled off or pulled through and he'd lose points in the field now and then, and you don't want to find them with a tractor or combine or auger cart tire! New bolts and nuts are cheap insurance and sure makes things easier! OL J R :)

I've never had to hammer the new bolts back in, were your holes full if dirt.
@boehmfarm42767 жыл бұрын
From the factory, the holes in the shank started out as 1/2" before they were shaped into a curve. After bending, the top hole was ovaled. I tried drilling them out, but the spring steel is too hard. Dad bought half inch bolts.

That brown lock tight is something else eh? Lol
@boehmfarm42767 жыл бұрын
hahaha The only issue is that it takes time to set, and doesn't work in oily conditions.

there are left and right hand throws on the shovels ,correct?
@45Deere95007 жыл бұрын
kim culver Yes, for the ones they have on. You can get straight points too.

45Deere9500 we bought a trailer type years ago had all left throws .kind of danced to the side.first one l ever had but quickly figured out the problem..things you run into

kim culver I can imagine it wouldn't pull correctly.

The one end of those points doesn't owe you anything, that's for sure!
@boehmfarm42767 жыл бұрын
And always have the points next to the tires shooting the dirt away.

So all points down or up as I think you may have missed one?
@boehmfarm42767 жыл бұрын
All points down, I replaced the bolts and didn't flip one.

Are your points 3" or 4" wide?
@boehmfarm42767 жыл бұрын
The are 3".

hmmm must be something different in the USA, don't those shovel/spikes need to have a twist on the end, where one twist left then the next one twist right, making the soil turn over better,
@boehmfarm42767 жыл бұрын
There is a slight twist along the length of the points, I guess it doesn't show well on camera. I think we do have more twisting one way than the other.
@danielmalick1727 жыл бұрын
I did that exact same thing on our chisel plow. How many points is that plow?
@boehmfarm42767 жыл бұрын
This one is twelve.
@danielmalick1727 жыл бұрын
Ok, that's the same as our Massey Ferguson, we pull it with a international 856.
@boehmfarm42767 жыл бұрын
That's got to be a tough pull on the 856. But if she handles it might as well go for it.
@johnnyholland87656 жыл бұрын
Those are some awful thin looking points...... You think yours are tough try changing them out on a 32 foot Deere plow. Takes about three hours with two people a cutting torch and welder and a 3/4 drive pnumatic wrench. Don't forget the bucket of bolts.
