i have 2 green sunfish that eat anything... live/ pellet they hit it hard everytime... water splashes my face.... been raising them from about an inch long. I had creek chubs in the tank wihc i fed pellets... the sunfish got trained by seeing the chubs eat the pellets. I did not intentionally train them to eat the pellets, it kinda just happened. My one green sunfish eventually ate the creek chubs and is out growing the other geen sunfish. But they are not picky at all , go from live to pellet, pellet to live everytime no problems... cant say the same thing about my blue gills and pumkinseeds. The pumkinseeds seem to be the most picky while ive had my largest blue gill who i have the longest eat some pellets but he wont "fill up" the way he does on other foods.Perhaps i need to to be more patient and stick with ur method. Thanks for the knowledge borther!

Interesting video. I couldn’t get my Rock Bass to convert. I ran out of patience with it so live foods for him (or her). Getting one of these to convert would be a challenge. It did however eat frozen foods.

I’m going to try this method...Hopefully the pumpkinseed stops spitting the pellets out!

Fishing DBN if he’s a new fish it might take him a few days to get comfortable before he’ll want to take food. Pet trade fish don’t typically have a problem taking prepared foods for the most part.

Thank you 😊🙏.. il definitely keep you posted... I've tried 4 types of food thus far pellet form..

Fishing DBN Did your Flowerhorn start excepting pellets? I got a Flowerhorn about 2 weeks ago and my problem is that he will only take one certain type of pellet I got from the breeder. He just refuses any other types of pellets.

Would this work for bass
@Day5Aquatics3 жыл бұрын
I’ve never kept bass so I don’t know how hard they are to train but I’ve seen tanks where bass would take pellets. The good news is that bass are very active surface feeders so that really increases the odds of getting them to accept pellets. This method theoretically works with any type of fish. The only thing I’ll say is that you may have to “starve” the bass longer than you would a sunfish before they get motivated enough to try pellet foods. Also, go with the largest floating pellet you can find. Unless you are training a tiny fingerling bass. The larger the pellet the more likely they are to notice it and consider it for food. Hikari floating Cichlid pellets would be a good start. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Dear Aaron: I culture several, small species of live food for my small, tropical fish. I watched this video by DebTim a Canadian Girl about culturing earthworms and it looks like a lot of fun: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmmbaKuEqdGGY7M Perhaps you might consider this method? Earthworms would make a nice treat for your, larger, native fishes. All my best, Sincerely, E. J. Brinegar
@Day5Aquatics6 жыл бұрын
E. J. Brinegar I’m not interested at all in raising worms. If I’m gonna do that I’ll just get some from a bait shop. But I appreciate the tip. I just find it’s easier, cheaper, and safer to avoid live feedings if at all possible. And the fish are doing great.
@ejbrinegar6 жыл бұрын
Dear Aaron: The processed foods you provide your pets appear to work well, as they look healthy and happy. The only native fish I ever had was a bullhead catfish (Ameiurus nebulosus). He took shrimp pellets and enjoyed freeze dried krill. I gave him earthworms when I found them, but I always worried about disease and poisons. He did fine, however, until he grew too wild and I gave him to a man who has a pond of catfish he feeds, but never allows fishing. Thank you for your, help and correspondence. Sincerely, Brinegar
