Glad you mentioned your new video on IG. KZbin sent zero notifications. Great video. I am thinking about converting some in this spring. The rotten egg smell may come from the water/ nutrients standing in that planting vessel. Thinking that it may not have been enough air circulation but that is just a guess

The stinky plants are rotting. Why? Because you had them in a jar that couldn't drain. Watering is not about how much water you give them, but how often you water and how long the water stays in the pot. Plants need water followed by a drying out period. A water meter can tell you when it is time to rewater. As long as the water can drain, you can run water through them for hours if you choose. Self watering pots are OK, but they can lead to overwatering as well. The size of the cotton wick makes a difference. Big plants that like lots of water can handle the big wicks. Plants that like dry soil need a smaller 1/6" or 1/12" wick. Self watering pots are not the holy grail. They can deliver too much or too little water to the plant. The main benefit is they water from the bottom which helps reduce gnats as the top stays dry. How are they doing now, a year later?

Are self watering pots good for Monstera Thai Constellation? Most care guides say that the soil should dry before watering them again so I'm not sure if if I should repot it in a self-watering pot that keeps the soil moist most of the time. Thank you!

Nice video. Your Mamei looks great. When using a glass vessel it’s very important to either bore holes in it or you have to periodically change the water because there’s no air circulation causing the water to become stagnant or smelly. I have transferred to Lecha since Pons, in my opinion is too dense. I did try mixing Lecha and Pons but that’s not the idea to spend more on subtrate as on the plants. My Alocasia grow feet in Lecha so that’s my choice. Nice plants.

Ok...first of all...I LOVE u! You are so freakin' cute & I love how you're not like some of the plant people; all froo froo perfect & so..ummm..full of themselves, experty like(?) I guess? You're just down to Earth real & your plants are gorgeous!! I. love. plants. I grew up w/them everywhere. My Nanny could plant a blade of dead grass & end up with an acre of the most beautiful Kentucky Blue you've ever seen! She had a cactus that was 60 yrs old! My Mom was just as good. Now, fast forward 51 years & here I am...the serial killer of all things green! Girl, my thumb isn't even BROWN! It's Grim Reaper BLACK! I just walk in the damn room & plants tremble at my presence & I swear I heard a few whispering the Lord's prayer & 1 phoned Dr. Kevorkian!! I'm not even joking right now! My son is 27 now but when he was NINE he could spit a bite of tomato into the yard & supply Ragu with enough tomatoes to sauce 3 countries! I swear it!! Driving home from every shopping trip, he'd call my Mom to tell her what all he got. 1 day she said, what'd your Mommy get... brace yourself...he said, "new caskets for her flowers"! I bought FLOWER POTS 😂! If I looked at a plant, he'd say, "no Mom, that 1 deserves to live, get this 1. Looks like it's got some fight in it!"! HATE that kid! Lol! I've watched 1000 vids, read as many articles but just end up more confused. Brown leaves?..too much water. Brown leaves?...not enough water. Keep the soil wet. Keep the soil dry. Root rot, root bound, lots of light, too much light... Who's on first? Third base! WOOO!! Within 4 years time, I lost my whole family...my parents, my in-laws, 3 aunts, 5 friends including my best friend, 3 pets, my Dad's dog & I threw my worthless husband out the day Dad died, a little over a year ago. I acquired several plants as a result (& major, major depression) & I'm trying desperately to hold onto them! I bought grow lights, which helped a lot but there's still some issues Idk how to remedy. I'm thinking the self watering pots may help...I never seem to get the watering right! I have 5 snake plants; 2 of the long leaf ones, 2 that I took from 1 of those & 1 small leaf one... nesting snake plant(?). Will they be ok in a self water jobby?? I also have 2 pothos & a Christmas cactus. I already killed 1 very big gorgeous nesting one & some kind of aloe plant w/palm like stems. Never seen one like it before but it's dead. Just D-E-A-D, dead. I could use ANY help u can give me!! Some questions... What are those brown hazel nut looking things in your plants? What's up with the mason jar thingies & how come none of your soil looks like actual soil? And that was a WAY longer comment than I intended, soooo...

Why are you wearing gloves? get your hands in there girl! The albo that have no variegation, you are supposed to cut off those leaves to encourage the variegated leaves to come in. I just ordered my first one and can't wait to see the results, your plants are stunning. You should always wash off your media before replanting, you have no idea what you are dragging into your new pot and plants.
@aprilbrooks

lmfao because I like to wear gloves. After years of owning plants, it’s my preference 😌 my albo came back with variegation when I put it on a moss pole. I posted pics on my Instagram. As for repotting I haven’t had any issues! I guess everyone’s experience is different 😇

Your treatment of the root rotted plant combined with a healthy plant shows very sloppy sanitary procedures . I suggest you study up a bit. Your emulation of “World Wide Wrestling” for plants is spot on”. The rotten oder is likely sulphur dioxide, an anaerobic (lack of oxygen) is a deadly environment for plant roots.
