Early in my involvement in O, I was at O Scale West chatting with an old-timer talking about the big knuckle couplers and how I preferred the look of the Kadees, and he said, “You know they’re compatible.” Whaaaaat??? I tried it and I t’s true! So I now have several 2 rail cars that I’ve made from old kits, using 2R trucks and Kadees, and they work just fine with my Lionel and MTH stuff. There’s a ton of inexpensive Weaver rolling stock out there just begging to be run. Cheers!

@Steves Trains This is a very cool mod! While your disclaimer was hilarious, I am in the camp of people who don't think it would matter too much. That said, I'm an N-Scale person and actually liked the standard c-claw couplers that were once very common. Personal preference is a thing, so it's all good! People gotta do what makes them happy!

O scale is a lot bigger than HO scale and it does take up a lot of room but it is very realistic. I still think HO scale is the best scale

You're dangerous Steve!!! When you mention the various 3-rail track sizes, does the 31 or 36 have any reference to radius? Did I mention that I have a Red Caboose GP9 and 2 sections of Atlas flex track? Now I want to go down and lay them out and run my loco back and forth. Probably more dangerous then you are.

So with O gauge it refers to diameter, not radius. I didn’t realize that initially when I started looking into it. So, O36 is a 36” diameter or 18” radius, which is like a 9” radius curve in HO scale.

@@StevesTrains That's interesting Steve t one point I was experimenting with a water front scene in HO that had a 12" radius leading onto a wharf. It was very doable with an S2 and 40' cars. But I had to file a notch in the center sill of a 50" car to get around the curve. These days I keep my min. industrial radius at 15".

Any recommendations for On30 replacement couplers for bachmann rolling stock?

I’m guessing they will take HO scale kadee or mchenry type couplers but I’m not 100% sure since I don’t have any On30 stuff.

Are you putting O scale Kadee couplers on N scale rolling stock, LOL

That is a solid way to solve any issues with cars or uncoupling over uneven track work and grade transitions!
