My take after using both MacBook Air M3 and Surface Laptop 7 (both 15”): I loved everything about how the Mac looks, feels, and how pretty and sleek the OS is. I loved actually USING the Surface for productivity sake. Mac gave me an utter headache trying to learn all the 3 step keyboard commands to do basic tasks. To watch movies, sync iPhone, and just…play around, MacBook. To work efficiently and productively, Surface and Windows OS. and this Surface gets pretty damn close to MacBook in the style department. 👍🏻

For general office work, data analysis work, and photography it is at it's best. The problems come when you need to print things up on old printers (bad drivers), gaming, and video editing. It just isn't built for those things yet or not at all. At least not at an acceptable level.

I bought the Macbook Pro 14 M3 Pro that I have but I did get a Surface Laptop 7 13.8 and I like it so far. I have always preferred Windows over MacOS but Mac's just last longer with the M Series chips over intel or AMD chips ( AMD was tolerable ) So far I like the battery life but I haven't put it though it's paces.

The slightly elevated digitizer surface seems like it could be an issue long term with respect to durability. Have you noticed any issue (beyond the sharp edge?)

The MacBook is the best laptop made. The problem is office, particularly Outlook, sucks on the Mac. So I continue to buy Windows laptops.

I've been super frustrated with my PC laptops, a 14" Intel gen 13 i7 and a 16" Intel gen 14 i7, so I've been seriously considering a Macbook. I hate the PCs terrible battery life, the jet fan noise and annoying little things like Windows forgetting that I always want SD cards to open the file folder when I insert it. I also hate Apple's predatory business strategies like charging excessively for more than 8 GB RAM or removing ports like they have done inte past so I've been very reluctant to buying anything from them. The new ARM processors are very interesting but I'm not sure they are there yet. Maybe they will be fine in 1-2 generations.

well if you need cross accessibility and the ability to do that software on the go… you should go for the laptop, as long as you make sure that it has a native arm version or can be emulated from x86, which basically means that it will work…

Honestly, get a windows. The setting of Engineering is mainly windows and sure you can run extra software to run those apps you need but you have to take in account in the OS. Windows is just standard in business.

@@Shortsfortheday21 I think we all have different cases for using our laptops Microsoft should give us the option if you want Alcantara keyboard or not. Some of us are neat freaks and don’t eat or drink near computer equipment. So we can maintain this type of material on a keyboard.

Brother, please reply to this (I am a starting college student):- In India during the Amazon Great Indian Festival Sale/Flipkart BBD sale, base M1 MacBook Air will be priced around 50k (500 USD); base M2 Air at around 65k (650 USD) and the base M3 at around 85k (850 USD) and the 16 GB variant of the M3 at around 105k (1050 USD). My logic is :- If I buy M1 Air base variant today; it could last me for next 3-4 years but then its resale price will be 0. We can skip the base M2 and there is no point in upgrading the storage as I could just pick the M3 for that price. Now, for the M3, for the 350 dollars, difference I will get a better laptop for next 3-4 years and after that I would get a resale value of around 400-500 dollars which means I could kind of own a M3 Air for less than an M1 Air in a 4 year time frame. Then, if I add the 16 GB upgrade (extra 200 USD), in the 4 years time, when 8 GB ram would really not be enough, I could get additional 150-200 USD resale value (around 70k or 700 USD) meaning it would cost be around the same as the 8 GB M3 MacBook Air or maybe less as 16 GB ram models will be in demand then. So, what call should I take? Which would be a wiser value for money deal??? Please bro, please reply.

get a m3 air 16gb or m2 16gb its worth paying more money right now and when its time to resale i bet you can sell it for at least 700 bucks for m2 gb and 800 for m3 gb just take care or your laptop and that will make the resale value higher. good luck!

I wouldn't recommend buying Macs nowadays. Apple has not only practically removed the option of upgradibility and serviceability but is also removing the ports from the Macs. Not to mention their walled garden of an OS. You will get a much better deal by buying a refurbished thinkpad.

@@Stormlywing I don't know what Windows PC you used but I have used HP, and now use MSI and my friend has M2 Air. The font clear part is something that I never noticed. They all look the same to me. The problem is, people spend less on windows, then they do typically on a Mac and complain windows is slow or bad display etc. I have seen a lot of such examples.

Depends on software compatibility. A lot of academic software's I use, don't run on Mac. On ARM, at least they would run with emulation. I am sure they will optimize for ARM, as it catches up.
