The text size was sadly a deal breaker for me. I play exclusively in handheld mode, and so much of it is just unreadable. I actually requested and got a refund because of it from Nintendo for my eshop purchase! Here's hoping there'll be a patch that fixes the text and other bugs in the game.

SMT has some pretty mixed results though. On one hand you got Devil Survivor and on the other you have Majin Tensei, Persona 5 Tactica, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions

@@jamesyhsu technically another example of poor optimization so to speak. They took the game as made for the PC and just sort of ‘port’ it over to the Switch as is. There you go, job done, now give us your money. That’s how we do this nowadays. Minimum effort, maximum profit 🎉

I don't think SNK was impressed with anything, they just wanted to milk the franchise without doing any work, just like Konami does. I played the demo of this and I was very dissapointed. It felt like a very limited XCOM, and the roguelite structure, which is something I already hate, already showed how bad it was when I had a mission to destroy a convoy, and I dealt barely any damage to it while dozens of enemies were in the stage. I also didn't think that things were clear visualy, it was confusing to know about what is at what height.

Looks like a stellar game. I agree that the sprites really nail the metal slug look, but the environment feels too blocky to truly feel hand drawn. Still, seems like an absolute pickup from me. We used to do a metal slug marathon every finals week with the Wii’s Metal Slug Anthology. The best part about it was we always forgot the unique pathways available in the few months between semesters. Seems like this game didn’t keep that feature very much. Branching, sure, but not Easter egg branches.

Really similar to Dofus and Wakfu, maybe they took inspiration on Ankama which is another french studio, but get the added Metal Slug branding.

Great breakdown. Currency is slow to be gained in this game so it seems like a slow burn. Beat the first world's boss, so its good to know I can now start from that second world. I didnt check since I ended off there.

I don't believe it has anything to gain by being 60fps. 30fps would have been more than enough for this style of game. It is not like you have to see and react to enemies moves like in an actual run n gun style game such as Metal Slug. There you would absolutely benefit from 60fps. I don't even understand why developers would chose to go with 60fps. Instead they could have worked to make the environment look better.

Awesome review guys. Just my 2 cents, but I don’t think the visuals should be Judged together with performance. I have bought this one, and I noticed the dips and totally agree that they need to work on this, but taking points away from “visuals” on a game so beautiful like this brought one of the highest rated games this year from you guys down to 88%. Not a complaint, more like food for thought. Keep up the great work!
