As a swede, moomin is a part of the culture growing up. However, it wasn't until I studied literature at the University that I really understood why these stories have stood the test of (at least modern) time. When I read Tove Janssons last book about the moomins, "Moominvalley in November", as an adult I got a broadened sense of what it is to write stories for children about family in a very Scandinavian setting, where the state has tried to take the place of family in many respects. Anyhow, just a really great collection of stories for kids and their parents, happy to see it transition into gaming. Thanks for covering it, and thanks for the channel! You're my go to-guys for game reviews.

I used to love Moomin when I was younger, and as I'm from Sweden I got to experience both the books and the cartoon. It both fascinated and at times scared the crap out of me.. because Moomin can be pretty dark with some sinister characters. The Groke (Mårran in swedish) in particular gave me nightmares.. 😂

Swede here. Took me some time to get into Moomins, as I wasn't the biggest fan of the 90's show. It was good, but there were other shows that appealed to me more (and the random episodes I came across were not my favourite storylines, looking back. I'm not too found of the tv-version of Ms Filyjonk. I prefer the different Filyjonks we meet in the books). But the books? I love them, I love them, I love them so much! I've read and reread everyone of them at least thrice each. Once in Swedish, once in English (to check out the translation) and once as an audiobook. And my three favourites; Midsummer, Midwinter and Trollkarlens Hatt (or Finn Family Moomintroll as it's known in English) I reread every year in one form or another. Tove language is so playful, striking and beautiful. See, Tove saw herself not as an author first, but as a painter. And you can tell because, cliché as it might sound, she really could paint with words. She had that great artistic eye able to make stunning and thoughtful observations about both human-nature and nature nature, big emotions and small intimate moments and character relations and I could go on and on. And her characters who are so colourful and charming and memorable. She is one of my great heroes and influences.

Thanks for the chance. I personally knew Moomins from audio books firstly. Used to listen to a particular story where Moomin had to warn everyone in Moomin Valley about a meteor comibg down as well as a story about him waking up during hibernation and staying up to see an ice fairy of sorts. I also watched the cartoon from the 90s as well as some of the newer Moomin Valley show and personally remember Snufkin usually for being the quite smart and often calm guy who loves to travel and be alone but also appreciates Moomin's company whenever he visits Moomin Valley. My favourite scenes usually involved him playing his harmonica for Moomin as they hung out at the tiny bridge over the tiny river between the woodlands and the meadows with the blue house of Moomin's family. Was simply a really lovely and serene looking scene always. Honestly, just like the swedish works by Astrid Lindgren as like Pippi Longstockings, I always assumed anime studio Ghibli could potentially become interested to turn Tove Janson's books into a movie. At least the franchise became popular enough that there is a fullfledged theme park and a bunch of merchandise in Japan. Anyways, nice review and happy to hear it is mist of the time running well. Music and aesthetics make this game definitely shine.

My first memories of Moomin, the show, was on a winterholiday up in the swedish alps with my family. We lived in this small cabin, next to the skilift. Snow up to my knees, cold as could be, but I loved it. During the daytime, we where in the slopes, and the evenings we where all playing boardgames and watching tv. Loved it. One evening, Moomin was on, all us kids where hudling up infront of the screen with hot coacoa. Little did we know, it was the show of nightmares. It was the one with the Groke. Core memory right there. Hold that close to my heart, since some of the people who where there is no longer with us. Thank you Moomin for making it that much easier to remember them all

Well done to the publishers for keeping the Moomin fire going.

The Moomins were my first solo book reads. I think my mum read one to me as a bedtime story and then I read the rest alone. They are timeless I think, because they speak to the heart. They don’t hide anything complex, they don’t speak down to the audience as it were, they are a little scary when they need to be, a little surreal and silly when they need to be. And most telling of all, they are sad when they need to be. I think that’s why they’ve stuck in my memory all these years. The Groke is still one of the scariest (and most tragic) characters in children’s literature, and as an adult I can see it for the metaphor it is and it makes it ten times worse.

I remember I was very young , I would wake up around 4-5 in the morning and I’d turn on the TV and thats where I would find them , The Busy World Richard Scarry, Babar, and off course Moommin, as I watched tv my mother would be making hot chocolate or oatmeal right after giving my dad his lunchbox cause he would go to work after, I really love early morning cartoons around that time it would be still dark very quiet and warm. I also think tha Snuffkin foreshadows a little bit of Link from ocarina of time having that green tunic and his harmonica, and his hat, and having that wondrous spirit made in special just as Link That is why I think it’s amazing that there’s a game now that it evokes that spirit, through music, and that is my little story with Moomin ^_^

Yay was hoping you would do this one!!!! I love the Moomin books and comics and the tv show from back in the 80s! I like the books best though. I have a few pieces of merch because it is SUPER popular in Japan where I lived for a while and argh I am so glad people like the game! I'm buying it today and the dlc (which gives snufkin a couple of important costume additions!) Why are the Moomins popular? Because they are so unusual, the original art is extremely moody and mysterious, it gives you a feeling of fairies and ghosts etc and the stories themselves are about children and adults alike, the personalities of the characters are so diverse and subtle, perfect for a person who likes stories but not with one dimensional characters. Anyway def read the books if you can because they help you to understand the interpretations of the characters in other media. Btw nobody asked but although I like all the main characters, including Snufkin, I like the Snork, Sorry-oo the dog, as well as the Muskrat best, I think. I realllly hope each character I like has at least a small appearance in the game for maybe a side quest or something. I guess I will find out!

Never even heard of this serie before... but the gameplay and storie looks to be right up my alley. Very interested in this game. I'll just put it on my wishlist for when there is some space in my backlog 😂
