Does anyone else know this trick? Double tap the home button to zoom in on the screen. This is a switch feature and not a game feature, you can do it at any time, in any game. I've used it to play diablo 3 like torchlight and breath of the wild like uncharted haha it makes things a bit more pixelated, but it is sooo handy 😎👌

@SwitchUp Taking me back. Used to love the Redwall books. Typical high fantasy fare but the thing was all the characters were mice, rats, badgers, rabbits, etc, etc. Definitely added to the wishlist. I feel like criticising a card game for RNG is like criticising Mario games for all the jumping. The whole point of deck builders is to build an efficient deck specifically to control the randomness! Still, a great review as always 👍

Depends on how the rng is handled. You should always have a chance even with bad rng but too much negative rng without ability to mitigate can be demoralizing

Ghost of a tale is pretty close. It is only a matter of time. There are more khajiit and argonian than humans and elves in ESO. There is large market for it. Armello is good if you like this genre too.

This game is extremely addicting. I've beaten the prince twice already, but it really takes a lot of effort and advance thinking of your deck, building around how to protect yourself while dishing out tons of damage. This is probably one of my best indie game of the years. The atmosphere is just really good too. Happy to see SwitchUp give it some love

Couple good card game releases all at once. Personally went with shadowverse and having a good time of it. I tend to enjoy the traditional deck building style where I collect cards and build the deck a head of time versus rogulike style where you get new cards as you progress in the match and change on the fly.

The way you get cards as you progress is actually what makes the game fun - It's adaptability. The more knowledge, experiences you know about the game; the more precise you choice is and the better you make your way through. And it's exciting when things get together as you plan lol

Good to start off with the deckbuilding genre if you're new to it, but if you're experienced you'll find balance issues everywhere. The player is incredibly overpowered compared to enemies, even with the oaths. There's only one encounter that can maybe have a chance, and it's the Prince fight. The oaths themselves allow a combination of 3 run modifiers. Some combinations can set you up for an unwinnable run on the first encounter, but you wouldn't pick those anyway on a score run, their values are too low. I think after the devs introduce all the new content they plan to, they should do a rebalancing because everything needs to be looked at here.

@@InnerRise the music composer has a youtube page showing how the music works and is brilliant, also the music is a 10/10 and is just a 10 min remixed song that it modifies itselfs to last up to an hour per battle, i think u never hear the same song, it changes with your actions

I havent played this one yet, and only like 6 hours or so of griftlands, which is a very good and polished game. But Slay the Spire is the pinnacle of deck building dungeon crawling/roguelite. Its a perfect game, challenging in a fun way and with almost infinite replayability. I have like 100+ hours in it so I dont play it very often anymore, but when I do its still fun.

Still on the fence about this one. All I can say is if Monster Train comes to Switch…. I’m in trouble. Put 130 hours into it during quarantine. I know that might not be ungodly for some people, but to put it into perspective, my second highest steam game is at 40 hours.

IMO what lacks in these deck games is the magic of animation and excitement that you can have in videogames. The move from paper cards to vg should/must take advantage of the visuals + graphics to enhance the player experience and bring that extra layer of fun that card games lack in real life decks, which like it or not is something Yu-gi-oh games have understood and done quite well. Its just my humble opinion but these dark flash like animation doesnt do it for me. Easy pass

the problem with these card based games is there's too much to learn 🤣 and after pumping 850 hours in to BOTW in which time I could have fully learned another language I can't really justify card based games. Finished haven park btw. saw the ending coming but didn't detract from the enjoyment. such a little gem. on to Islanders now after your review.

Bought it on day one for mere $4.99 and loving it so far even though its flaws. Animations are pretty basic but it indeed, really common in Card games BUT how It controls can drag the experience more than a little bit. Still glad to support a team of developers who clearly, put so much love and effort in BOR (Banner of Ruin) AND recognize its players with a small discount if you own Legend of keeper, which share the same publisher. Really satisfied that a big gaming channel review it, Rob and Switch up team, thanks.

Reminds me a lot of Slay the Spire. Having HP hidden behind Block point or Armor, the Roguelike style, and of course the cards themselves (even Strike as your basic attack is present). I looked at this one a while back on steam but didn't pick it up because the combat looked like it might veer away from being card-based, but I suppose it actually doesn't after all. Not sure if it'll be a little too random to be truly enjoyable or if that's a good way to spice up repeated runs. Hopefully the sale stays up for long enough that I can get through what I'm currently playing (and whats filling up my switch's storage).

Awful, just awful. Shockingly poor release state. Where do I begin? The fact it boldly states “early access” on the title screen (even though it isn’t)? The fact you have to press on the ‘R’ stick JUST TO ADVANCE THROUGH MENUS? The fact that it hangs (no button press will continue the game) after you level your character? The absolutely unreadable enemy text (even with the switch zoom feature on FULL)? The impenetrable equipment management? The unfathomable control system? The list goes on. Zero attention paid to this release. Save your money. Avoid.
