I live in Sydney, Australia and make around 100k per year AUD, which is around top 20% of income earners, $80k after tax. Swiss wages are much higher and comparing product prices, it's much cheaper in Switzerland than here, the different is crazy. They say Switzerland has highest cost of living, only if you're a foreigner or Swiss who doesn't make the average wage. Evidenced by low Swiss inflation rate, which has been low for decades, amazing country they've built!
@mariyaivanina5 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing! Yeah, I read that in Australia the cost of living is also high, but agree the salaries here help with managing household expenses. But the situation with salaries varies from region to region here too, Zurich is the most expensive area and with highest salaries, but other cantons have lower average salaries:)

I’m Swiss and i used to live in Sydney, in Engadine, next to the Royal National Park. Zurich is the dearest city in the country, but people earn the most there. I live in the east of Switzerland and things are cheaper there than Zurich.

Don’t judge the whole of Switzerland by the prices in Zurich. Zurich is the most expensive city in the country, they earn the most there. Other parts of the country are cheaper.
@mariyaivanina4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I understand, that Zürich is the most expensive city, but Migros groceries won’t differ too much in different cities( I don’t expect difference more than 10%), so it’s a kind of approximation😀

Personally, I never buy the cheapest like M budget, at least for fresh products like meat, dairy and vegtebles/fruit. Even if the cheap stuff is not bad, there still is a difference in quality, I think. Plus I want the animals being treated as good as possible and the people who produced it payed fair. I can't imagine that's the case with the cheap products.

Thank you! I'd say that Lidl is the cheapest, but Lidl has much fewer shops in Switzerland than Migros and Coop. Migros M-Budget brand's and Coop qualite Prix brand's food are just of the same price as you would buy in Lidl

what do you mean by meat is expensive because it is extremely high quality ? Switzerland is all expensive and NOT BEING in the European Community I am not really sure they check food as well as in the rest of Europe
@mariyaivanina Жыл бұрын
I can't say that I'm totally aware of the Swiss standards compared to the EU, but from what I read, they have high standards in treating and feeding animals, curing in case of illnesses. But I also agree, that the price is really high and could be similar to EU food:)
@menooNFT Жыл бұрын
i also didn't read the EU and Swiss regulations, but we tried to pass a law where all imported food would need to be the same quality as swiss made and we almost unanimously voted against it bc we would barely be able to import anything at all. European regulations are usually also very good tho but animal happyess is usually a lot worse in regions like hungary, rumania and so on.
@MoonnailPoppa Жыл бұрын
I think that the Swiss Food Standards are the same or higher than in EU. We live close to the Austrian Border, i go sometimes Shopping there, and in Vacations sometimes in Italy and Germany. I my personal Opinion the Swiss Standard when it comes to Food is higher and it has less Sugar and is more natural than in the Countries around us.
