We are swiss citizens living in the Philippines. Much of your observations are absolutely correct but I have this to consider and maybe to mention in your next emission of swiss prices : The quality of the products in Switzerland is much better than everywhere else. Wich makes some of them cheaper in the end than in other countrys. Example : Razor blades. Here in the Philippines cost 5 times less than the same brand in Switzerland. But the Chinese produce not the same quality to send here as they send to CH(Switzerland). What I buy here is good for 5 to ten shavings. My blades from CH , I can use up to 3 months! So what I bring(or somebody send from CH) is much cheaper than what I could buy here.. There are many other examples...... And about the food.....there you can be shure what you eat is clean,healthy,without any harmful chemicals. Here we have to grow our pigs and chicken ourselfs to be shure..... Anyway thanks for your , over all, very good description of the ladnes of swiss costs and prices .... 😘

Hi! Thank you so much for your comment and inputs. I totally agree with you on this, while prices are much higher in Switzerland: there are many things to consider in: from higher cost of labour, the quality of materials used, more eco-friendly methods of production etc. I acknowledge that this is not an apple-to-apple comparison and price is not the sole key consideration. I did briefly mention this at the end of my video about how despite the cost of my grocery shopping I appreciated how almost half of what I bought were bio products.

Completely agree. In a few days I am going for short holiday with my family to Ticino (as usual). I can’t wait to bring back to Milan Swiss milk, bread, butter, hot dog sausages and plenty of local chocolate.🇨🇭 People don’t get our behaviour because usually Swiss people come to shop to Italy. We do it other way around 😂We just pack our car with Swiss groceries anytime we visit. 🇮🇹💖🇨🇭🥂

very informative video! i love going to grocery stores whenever we travel so this was an excellent tour. the prices are pretty comparable to what we pay in california, USA. but my kid eats a lot so we are prepared to have him snack a lot before we go supermarket shopping! our sushi costs more as does fish....

The meat prices are kinda expensive, but compared to Sweden, it's really not that much of a difference... Except maybe for the minced meat, the mixed one, (cow and pork) is about twice as expensive. Although, it's really not that much money considering your take home evey month in CH compared to SE is almost three times as much. Good video! Thank you! (EDIT: In Sweden you also pack your own groceries 😁)

Hi!! You should visit Portugal and make a similar video. Apart from the meat, the rest of the prices are quite similar or lower compared to Portugal, but here the minimum wage is 740€. If you add to this expenses 500€ to rent a small (2 room) apartment (city's like Porto or Lisbon the rent is higher, 800/900€+), you can imagine the scenary around here ;)

Hi Olivia, any chance of you recommending some "affordable" restaurants and hotels for a 2-3 days tour in Zurich in Apr 2023? I am from Singapore and have seen many videos of the high prices in comparison to here including the groceries. While thought since there for just 2 days/ 3 days, should at least try one to two restaurant lunch and a couple of desserts. Though am still considering if i should stop by Zurich or give it a miss. And in need of a hotel that's ok (clean, not far away from transport).....Thanks in advance/
@Olliechinny
@Olliechinny Жыл бұрын
Hi! You can check my Zurich Vlog for Hotel Scheuble, it was very decent near the Old Town and quite affordable for Zurich standards. Unfortunately it is very hard to find “affordable” restaurants generally in Zurich, I would say your best option would be Coop or Migros restaurant which is more of a buffet setting and it goes by weight of your food.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yes indeed, seafood is prohibitively expensive. We also buy frozen prawns and salmon. Back in Singapore we eat fish very often but the variety here are quite different and we are not used to the taste… aside from filet de pêches! 🤪 Do support the channel with a subscribe, it would mean a lot to me! No point comparing the prices of things in Switzerland to other countries. The standard of living is different in every country, also what you earn, what services you get, what tax you pay, the buying power of the currency and more, it varies in every country try.

That is really good budgeting though, I would say! We are 2, and we try and look and find offers, and we still end up spending 120-140 francs per week, so around 480-560 francs per month in food alone. I would definitely appreciate some tips!

I have been to both Singapore and Switzerland (was in Lausanne). In general, I found Switzerland to be more expensive than Singapore. Food products and eating out are very expensive in Switzerland because of expensive labour. I found the packaging of food products in Coop and Migros to be very elegant (bright colours and design) and of high quality. Singapore however, has a wider choice to choose from,probably to cater to the needs of the different cultures/ethnicities. Mustafa in Syed Alwi Road is a one-stop shop for both locals and foreigners. Accommodation and transport are quite expensive in Switzerland. In Singapore, you can have an excellent meal in a hawker centre for almost a third of the price of that in Switzerland. Both countries rank among the most expensive cities in the world. Both countries are very beautiful and clean.

Hi! We indeed eat ALOT less meat than when in Singapore, and we do most of our grocery shopping at Lidl, very seldom at coop and migros! I can confirm that as of March 2023, my grocery spending is still ~400chf for two. (Excludes dining out; which is probably 3-4 times a month) 1100CHF is almost 275CHF a week on groceries; that is certainly very high! What do you spend it on mostly…?
