So just to give you guys some context. I assume your train ended in Winterthur because it was delayed while travelling through Germany. Our national train company SBB has placed measures in the last couple of years in place because of the terrible on time performance in Germany to stop trains at or a little after the border if they are more than 15 minutes late. The reason for this is that international trains are part of the national schedule as well. Meaning going from place A to B within Switzerland that train might be coming from Germany or Italy. Now if that train is significatly delayed SBB stops it and provides a replacement train so the national passengers aren't affected. Obviously this is still a hassle for international passengers and the guard should have done a better job explaining.

It makes me sad if people are offended or take it personal, if stuff like this happens. The conductor was probably frustrated, because changes happen often suddenly because of defects, accidents (sadly quite often) or as stated delays. I live here and am glad you liked it otherwise 🤗

I am from Brazil, living g in Switzerland since 1988. I live very close to the Gurten. You guys were lucky to see the mountains, as usually you can't see them. Actually, we are always happy to see this beautiful landscape. Bern is a beautiful place, I love it, especially in summer, where we go to swim in the river Aare.

The problem with trains from Germany to a final destination in Switzerland is well known to travellers - the German trains are often late, arrive often too late at Swiss border to fit into the dense public transport network timetable in Switzerland any more. So arriving trains are stopped before scheduled destination - at some critical border stations Swiss railway company keeps backup trains to leave the border station on time for the journey in Switzerland, travellers arriving too late on the train from Germany will have to wait for an other connecting train. Tickets are valid for connecting train to final destination. Looks like in that specific case, train was allowed to continue to Winterthur railway node only.

Thanks, John! 😊 Yes, we definitely expected to find snow there, but somehow the first week of Switzerland gave us the best weather we'd experienced since late-November in Spain. Truly bizarre.

I drove round Europe in 2009 with my then teenage son (wow, 15 years ago, where does the time go) and driving through the Alps along Stelvio Pass on our way to Livigno for an overnight stop was amazing. Every turn was a view that took your breath away. It took us a long time to eventually leave that mountain range as we stopped so many times for pictures 🤣

If you are tourist and you stay in a hostel or hotel in Bern, the public transportation is free in Zone 100 and 101/city and suburban area. You can take Tram, Bus or S-Bahn. You have an access to an app and a kind of ticket. Thank you so much for your video. Take care. Greetings from Bern❤

The multi level shops is a lot like Chester in England. The prices in Switzerland do sting. Not least the tax not being included in the ticket price. But when wait staff earn about £40k it makes a little more sense why a family burger meal can be £100.
@qlctravels4 ай бұрын
That's awesome! I suppose the prices for everything else in the country counterbalance the free transport, but it's still cool to see tourism being encouraged in that way.

Wow, I didn't realise how much life uncertainty you had to return home to, and must have done so, by now. I'm not just interested now in your experiences and reflections of your trip and traveling but I'm going to want to know about the return home and what has become of you both since! I hope it's positive! With regard to Bern & Switzerland, your experiences seem to broadly reflect what others in my experience say - not a particularly interesting place to go but the location and views are stunning.
@qlctravels4 ай бұрын
Indeed, it was an... interesting... few months getting settled post-trip. Perhaps we'll go into detail in a future video about how that all came together. Yeah, Bern itself wasn't a standout, but the overall experience was great (I'm sure our wallets begged to differ). Originally we had more of Switzerland in our route, and we wonder now how a city like Zurich would have compared. I can't remember our exact logic for choosing Bern as our single Swiss destination, but I want to say our research described it in very Bruges-esque terms, and we were probably in Berlin or Prague at the time of booking everything, so the idea of a smaller city likely swayed our decision. Did your comment refer to Switzerland more broadly, or just Bern? Would we have been likely to have a similar experience regardless of where we stayed in the country?

The enclosure they showed at 24:40 was closed down in 2009 due to animal welfare reasons. You can see the new enclosure at around 24:31 on the left-hand side, which is around 6'000 square meters or a little over 64'000 square feet in size. It keeps going a little further outside the view. The river was also extended into the enclosure so they can have a swim in natural flowing waters.

Yeah, if you buy a train ticket in Switzerland then you can take any train at any time who goes to your destination, unless you bought a ticket with a very reduced fare, so you are train bound. And as you mentioned, you came from Munich. I guess the train was so delayed ( Deutsche Bahn salutes you) that the Swiss had to end the train in Winterthur so as to not delay the Swiss train schedule. It happens every Day. But as the Swiss railway schedule has trains every 30.min to every destination it shouldnt bei a big problem
