Thank you sir for the tutorial. This technique is easier said than done, and Yes, it's all about practice, practice, and more practice. One thing that I discovered a while back that uses this same art technique(s)...and I don't know why I never followed through with Leather Crafting, I should of had..., is that if one uses a Hot Iron Tool (Pyrography Art...the simple tools is the same as that of a soldering iron) to practice on gourds using the hot iron tip that approach on technique is the same or resembles the approach of that of the Swivel Knife too. With leather being really expensive it is hard to practice on a regular basis with leather...now I remember why I started practicing on gourds. Anyhow, with the pyrography hot iron tool, if set to a temperature that is not too hot and not too cold, and Yes there are heat regulator for the tool, one can use the hot iron pyrography on leather and there is absolutely little to no resistance on making deep grooves onto leather. It is the same with gourd too, and yes, it is all about practice, practice, practice. Now that I am better at my art skills, I am going to incorporate more pyrography free-hand sketching onto leather. I think that the first time I bought my first set of pyrography tools was some time in 1993, and since then fell in love with that art medium. Since then I have picked up pen and pencil, charcoal, acrylic, digital design, art history from various ages, web development, etc., but despite all the new art technologies that are out there is nothing more beautiful than good old traditional art that have withstood centuries, if not a millennia of being around! Again, thank you for sharing!

Hi George great stuff I'm just getting into leather craft, question for you you wet the leather OK, but does this have to be dampish all the time you are cutting or carving? Thank you
@TandyLeatherCo
@TandyLeatherCo 8 жыл бұрын
+Ray Salter Great question! You want to make sure that it has enough moisture that the cuts open easily. If you feel your knife dragging, you may need a bit more moisture or to strop your swivel knife. That being said, you want the leather to be damp rather than wet, so wait for it to try a moment after adding more moisture. Jim Linnell recently did a fantastic swivel knife tutorial that explains this a little more. Watch it at kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJipqZVof6qsfpY
