I don't believe Mustaine was polite towards Marty Friedman about this. Knowing his temper he probably argued over it. I mean, his loss, Marty was supreme. I don't think Megadeth ever had anyone better at guitar, and Mustaine knew it all along.
@Slug-Anderson2 жыл бұрын
He's no Marty Friedman, but in his own right, and for his time in megadeth, Glenn Drover was and is an amazing guitarist. He nailed marty's solos on the "that one night" concert.

Shit he’s had a million great guitar players mustaine himself is great player DONT get it twisted and he sings while playing them riffs so I don’t get it let Marty do his pop rock

Kiko is pretty much at Marty's level, all other Megadeth's guitarist are pretty great musicians by their own right. However, there's one and only one Marty Friedman.
@thecrossedtheroadfund42892 жыл бұрын
Marty is underated for sure
@itsalwayssomething74902 жыл бұрын
Dude, Kiko is absolutely on Marty's level, if not slightly above him. Marty is legendary, but it's about timing. Marty helped Megadeth get bigger at a time where Megadeth was on the rise, and Megadeth helped Marty get out of the guitar virtuosos bubble where only musicians have heard of him. Megadeth was a successful band before Marty, which is why Marty joined. Marty elevated the quality of Megadeth and made classic albums at a time when thrash was king. But, he didn't write the songs, Dave did. Are the songs the same without Marty? No. Marty made them better. But, if this current lineup was the lineup back then, we would be talking about them. I love Nick, but Gar was Megadeth's best, and Dirk is very much in that vein, but better. Of course your favorite players will be from a time when you were really into a band, and when they had peak success. But, this current lineup is just as good, but happens to come at a time when Megadeth is on the tail end of their existence. Marty was also partly responsible for Megadeth heading in a more commercial direction. And had he stayed, they may never have gone back to thrash. Marty is a guitar God, but we shouldn't act as if he's better than every guitarists in existence. Lots of capable musicians passed through Megadeth, and this current line up is the best since the 90's.

Come on DAVE. When you are working with your people, don't leave it to management to tell. Call your "friend" and say here is the situation. There is no doubt Marty could have created a single version solo. Dave in the Blame chair again.

Dave has no friends in music industry
@keithbeef2 жыл бұрын
In my opinion that whole statement is bullshit. No way he quits over just that. Maybe some form of that truth was a final straw.
@tim63102 жыл бұрын
@@keithbeef my guess is that Dave & Marty were in that zone many bands get into where the members don't actually speak to each other, and a lot of communication is done through management. So the idea of Dave telling management to tell Marty... was probably a common thing during this time. I think that explains why Dave would be so matter-of-fact about the situation.
@NarfireVA2 жыл бұрын
@@keithbeef Marty's website used to have a section with his thoughts on every song he worked on and he specifically pointed out he didn't like the direction Megadeth was going at that point in time. If memory serves correctly he didn't like how by Risk the band's sound was confused like it didn't know if it wanted to be metal or radio music. He definitely had a paragraph about the Breadline solo too

Mustaine throwing up his hands with a “not my job” attitude as far as not telling Marty is pretty cowardly and fairly in line with his personality.
@majesticpbjcat77072 жыл бұрын
Totally! When I first read that story I was like "COME ON DUDE!?!" He really thinks that was the way to handle that situation and then tell the story all these years later and think that he doesn't come out looking like kind of a bitch? I've loved Dave as a musician all these years but as a person he's just an asshole. Simple as that. Even in recent interviews he STILL comes off like a dick.
@maplesalt14822 жыл бұрын
now we really know what Marty meant when he said he didn't feel like playing metal anymore
@slayabouts2 жыл бұрын
I think it was more of a "if you don't want him to play the solo, you need to be the one to tell him" kind of thing. It sounds like it wasn't Mustaine's idea to change/replace the solo and if it were him to be the one to tell Friedman, then it might seem like it was his idea. Either way, it boiled down to a lack of communication. Idk what happened after Mustaine saw Friedman's reaction, but he absolutely should have let the manager have it for not doing his job. He set the terms in that if he were to replace the solo then the manager needs to give the bad news and he didn't follow through on his end
@loomis88452 жыл бұрын
Dave is many things, a coward is not one of them. There's countless stories of him being very blunt and straightforward with guys, Marty and Dave especially had their fights and Dave never was shy about telling it like it was.
@justinengel85512 жыл бұрын
If Dave knew about the solo change and knew Marty wasn't going to be happy about it, he should've said something to Marty prior to the listening session mentioned in the story, and ultimately Dave has creative control over all things Megadeth, it's no surprise he would change a solo he felt not up to par or that doesn't fit the song, I do agree he should've taken responsibility and not blame management for whatever reason, everyone knows he has sole creating control over everything that Megadeth does, it's just a shame that Marty's career had to end in such a shit way, over egos and big heads, but that's Dave and nothing's changed there.

Same thing I’m thinking. Why didn’t they do it while Vinnie was still alive? Because he didn’t want it done. And it’s funny how the people directly involved who claim it’s not a money grab, stand to make a ton of money off of it. The Vinnie estate sold everything they could, down to his jeans. They didn’t wanna keep shit. I’ll be one of the ones not attending that Charlie Benante spoke about.
