Online games like this , Animal Jam or Club penguin ect. Don't seem realistic but as you get more into the game and go full speed to Relation ship, it actually helps you know about real life Relationships and how to deal with them. This one time I was playing on Animal Jam and my "boyfriend" wasn't on, so I start flirting with this other guy, we friend each other, go to a movie theater and watch a movie like it was a date, next thing I know, my BF gets online and comes to see me, he then gets so angry, I'm like "NOOOO it's not what you think!" My boyfriend un-friends me and leaves, my new boyfriend glares at me and does the same thing. Outside the game in real life I'm like "I will never cheat again.." Later on I just stopped doing the dating thing.

Ive had similar experiences in Gaia Online and Animal Crossing: Wild World I think its good for kids to experience this stuff. Having (basically) consequence-free social freedom with creating relationships with different people can teach you a lot about how you deal with others and teach you about yourself. A lot of people think nothing of stuff like this because "its just a game". but things are only as real and serious as you make it. Even if you think nothing of something, what it means to someone else is important. Real life or in a game, whatever reason you have to think of something the way you do, when between 2 people its not just what it means to you, ever.

This reminds me of something that happened to me in an online game. (This is super long) When I first got on, I didn't really know what I was doing and everyone was being pretty mean, and I met this girl who was sitting down, and she was nice to me! The game had a soul mate system, and I asked her to be my soul mate. It wasn't romantic, we were both girls (it was allowed in the game, boy and boy and girl and girl soul mates) , she didn't say much about herself, but we had fun, and helped each other and gave each other gifts, etc. I was pretty invested in her, despite lying to make myself more interesting sometimes, but we never talked about anything very personal. She never expected me to talk a lot or anything, or be any certain way, so while I wanted to seem interesting to her, I didn't have to. She was just fine with me as I was. I met a guy on there, and I introduced them. They were both college students (I was 13) and bonded really quickly, which kinda hurt me, but it was okay. One day, they were just talking, and she accidentally sent me a message meant for him. She was telling him she thought I was a "broken soul". Of course I talked to her about it, and she told me the truth. Since she was in Australia, and I was in New York, it was always hard to play together. I'd stay up really late so I could meet her in game, and she'd do the same for me. She only became my soul mate because she felt bad for me. After a while I just became more of a burden. She didn't really want to deal with me. The game was an escape for her, she just wanted to play. So we stopped being soul mates. I was pretty crushed, and eventually stopped playing. I was in a Guild (on the chat, someone called everyone to a certain spot, everyone who wanted to be in an Anime Guild and I came along) but I felt like I wasn't really apart of all of them. It was fun, but without my soul mate I felt kind of lost. I only started to really play the game when she came along anyway. The thing I feel worse about was being such a pain for her, and not even knowing it. I appreciate her putting up with me the way she did. I had a lot of fun because of her.

This actually got me thinking.. I used to play Maplestory on a daily basis when I was younger. Back then, I did get involved with a couple of e-boyfriends that did lead to awkward cyber sex. However, after a while, it got tiring having to interact with them every time I got on because I wanted to start training my character. So.. I began to avoid them--ignore their whispering chat, their buddy chat, everything just so that I could play by myself. Eventually, they did leave me alone because I figured the best way to get them off my back was to stay offline for a week or get on and delete them off of my friend's list. I then started to get obsessed with buying illegal currency in order to deck my character out with the highest damage possible and with the fanciest clothes. The attention I got from the popular players on the server really got to me, and I bathed in that for a while.. Until it got annoying again having to interact with them. And that was pretty much the entirety of my Maplestory experience outside of what little social interaction I did in it: I always tend to prefer to play alone because I liked to grind and do quests as if I was playing just another handheld video game. However... once I actually got involved in real-world gaming like Yugioh and Smash Bros, I started realizing that my evasive habits in Maplestory were showing up between my interactions with people that started to look at me on a romantic level in these communities. My spending habits also were reminiscent of the illegal currency I used in Maplestory. It actually was scary to realize that such experience could be reflected in real life. I mean, if you take into account that you are STILL interacting with real people on the Internet, you just have to wonder how real stuff can get in those games--minus the real life consequences.
