Nice video. The different angles are very good idea. I particularly liked the sequence covering footwork. So often overlooked.

S&B is severely under rated as a weapon set. I guess the guys always seem to go for the big flashy longswords, not realising there's some potent mechanical advantages for a buckler in close. This is a really nice video clip so thank you for showing it. :-)

I assure you I'm not stupid and I can indeed follow the video. What I see in the video is the rolling of the right arm over the buckler, which exposed the right arm to an attack. Are you not able to see that? Are you not able to understand what you are seeing?

why does youtube not accept posts with a sharp s right now?

Young man, just look at the video in slow motion. It is right in front of you to see as plain as day. At 0:55 the right hand is above and slightly in front of the buckler totally exposed to attack and the buckler cannot truly be on the defense since his sword pass in front of and outside of the buckler.

At 0.56 you right arm is total unprotected.

Old boy, I can only assure you once again that it is tactic and that roland is certain about the Blöße. There is a pretty long german video on youtube where roland explains this technique. You know nothing about german medieval swordsmanship, if you assume that you can at ANY TIME be completely defended. Every movement opens at least one Blöße. It is the timing of action and reaction, the observing of your partner when you risk the opening of one. At least in good swordsmanship or theory.

I assure you you are. After he deflects the blow, he leaves his shield on the defensive. in order to exploit with the sword while stepping forward on the opponent. Besides. He is not just drawing pretty figures. Hammaborg is solidly researched. This isnt fencing with a rapier.

The right arm would only be exposed if the opponents sword were on his (the opponents) left. Since this is a counter to the overbind of an attack from sixth ward the opponent has moved their sword to their right in an attempt to bind our sword down opening themselves to this counter. If they don't bind your sword don't bind you down, don't do this counter (actually you wouldn't have anything to counter because they wouldn't be doing anything to keep your attack from sixth ward from hitting them).
