I live for stuff like this honestly lol I could write MLA format essays on the different animation / attack cancelling tech that has existed in various forms throughout the 2D Castlevania series

is game playable on keyboard or is the experience just waaaay better on controller

It's playable on both! I personally prefer controller and afaik that's the intended control scheme, but I don't see any reason why keyboard would be bad if that's your preference
