Just some FYI for those watching this video in 2018. This program was written when Windows XP was still in full force. So while it does work on Windows 7 (which I use still) some have said using the program in Windows 8.1 and 10 doesn't always work right. This is due to the many changes Microsoft made over the past half decade. 16 bit applications were all but removed from 8.1 and 10. I believe this program is 16 bit. YES that makes a huge difference on modern systems. I don't believe there is a compatibility mode in Windows 10. You can still build (or find) an XP machine (just DO NOT hook it up to the Internet. Download the programs to a flash drive and install it that way to an XP box.). You can run it on Windows 7, but I've noticed a few quirks (just in the box that displays the actual pieces you want to add) in it. As far as the SoM forum, there isn't much activity on it. Seems like it died off. Also the documentation to use the editor is incomplete, and doesn't seem like anyone will. So you will have to trial and error things to figure out what it does.

SoM should work fine on windows 8 and 10, but there is a fix that most people will need to employ - I recently made a how-to post on the forums in the FAQ and Help section. The site and forum is still being maintained btw, there just hasn't been a lot of traffic lately.

It seems you can create pretty much anything seen in an early King's Field game, including outdoor areas and NPCs. Another nice thing is that you don't need to have the editor installed in order to play the user-made scenarios.

This looks amazing and by far the easiest way to make your own 3d console game. Is there enough to work with to make a non d&d like game? (Like maybe a Fallout?) Can you make custom sprites?

yes you can! Check the forums, but almost all the completed games in this engine use custom sprites and custom models.

Well, this video was only recorded in 2009 (on a modern computer, no less) so I see no reason why it shouldn't work in 2012. The web sites linked to in my video description seem to be down, though, so good luck finding a copy of the programs, I guess...

I'd imagine you would need a custom wall/ceiling texture that goes around your outdoor areas.

I have a problem with the SoM Maker, when I open the program, its not showing the full menu, only half the menu is not displayed, and I cant seem to make it full screen or resize the window. Also because the half the menu is not shown, there was no way to reach the exit program button. I checked for guides and stuff, but nothing is mentioned. Please Help.

1024 x 768 will help. It is odd that they never added Close, Maximize or Minimize to the window. So yeah that is a bit annoying considering that is a big part of application design on any OS platform.

Those links are no longer valid due to all the SPAM bots tanking SoM's website bandwidth. You now have to be a registered user on their forum to get the programs. Also note, that there were some changes done to the program. the 3D window to check out the items you use was shrunk down and placed in the lower part of the program. Kinda stupid in my book.

I had this in like 2013 or so. I'm trying to get it again. I don't know if it will work or not on windows ten, but so far it seems most things can still easily be found even if the links are obsolete.

Advice for next time: be a bit more specific in your comments (for example, you could have said "As you can see in my KF videos, travelling is done in real time" etc.). A simple "watch my videos" comment is very likely to be misunderstood as spam...
