Sword Review - Cold Steel Indian Talwar

My review of the Cold Steel Indian Talwar (aka Tulwar). This sword type features a distinct all-metal hilt characterized by the disc pommel. This pretty much locks you into a hammer grip, leading to the sword mostly being used for draw cuts, although it can also be used to reach around shields in a thrust.
Many Cold Steel swords pay little attention to things like historical accuracy, distal taper, and handling. This sword seems to be an exception - it features a heavily distally tapered blade, handles extremely well, and overall is a fun sword to use.

In old talwars, blade and handle were glued by lac, Lac is a resin produce by a insect

Great review. This sword performs incredibly well with backhand draw cuts, as you have shown in the test cutting. As soon as I started those backhand cuts, I basically forewent all the other cuts😆 Definitely Cold Steel's best. It tells you that Windlass knows perfectly how to make good swords--they just cannot be bothered with executing that on other models.

Agreed. It's great to see that Windlass CAN produce good swords, which makes it all the more a shame that they don't bother on the majority of their products.

You appear to have adapted very nicely to the way this beast handles! I know a lot of us used to European swords especially have struggled with it. I personally really like it for the niche it's in. Well done!

Thank you for this extremely well executed review. It truly was illuminating. Bravo! Also, someone more knowledgeable in the comment section might know the answer for my question: If I were to buy myself a reproduction of talwar, where should I look? I'm interested in battle ready, light/medium cutter, with no unnecessary embellishments, and as historically accurate as possible. People on various sword forums write that it's a hit or miss business with Indian sellers, and recommend cold steel. Which is odd given the company's reputation. Is any of it true?

Why is Windlass making swords for their competitors lol. Btw, I think you should put your channel name in the sword's measurement picture. That way when people share the photo around on forums, it helps spread the words.

I buy talwars and Shamshirs new too but I don’t get them online I get them made from special people who know who to make talwars the price o this talwar you can get a far better one made from Punjab
