Leo was insane this set, especially compared to their last outing at Glitch. The unfortunate matter is that Kola simply didn't play the match-up. He kept falling for the same traps and situations Mkleo kept dishing out. The advantage of playing an off-meta character like Byleth. Especially if you're proficient enough to carry the character's meta forward. Outstanding set by Leo.
@gianz20662 жыл бұрын
And how exactly do you play this matchup? To be honest I feel like kola didn't do anything wrong, except for lose neutral a few times. After kola lost neutral he simply got dlc'd on. How exactly is kola supposed to avoid that dlc up b when he gets sent of stage? Fair and especially bair send Roy at the worst angle possible when he gets hit off stage, after he gets hit its just a free up b kill for Leo. So if you have any tips for kola on how he could avoid that bs I would love to hear, cause frankly I don't see it.
@plushling69962 жыл бұрын
@@gianz2066 The most immediate thing I can suggest is recovery mix-ups, which granted is hard for Roy. Again and again, you see Kola going for the same angle at the same time. Leo capitalized on this and once he got Kola's pattern on lock, he seldom missed those Up-Bs. So I'd like to see him try going a little lower to catch Leo fishing for the Up-B or delay it to throw off his timing, which he did do at 7:51 and 9:27. But by that point, he had already lost a stock to that 4 or 5 times and was down 2 games before he started catching on. Another thing is that Kola got grabbed a lot this set. He would drift in with falling aerials and shield to anticipate Leo's OOS options, but Leo read that and just kept grabbing him and racking up damage, but that point is more to the players and less so the characters. But in general, if Kola respected Byleth's Up-B more by either waiting for it both on and offstage and play accordingly, that could've saved him several stocks and neutral interactions.

Kola is a rising star for sure. What he just got a lesson in though, is what it means and what it takes to be the best in the world and stay at that spot. In a competitive sport like Smash, you don't have to win every set, or beat every player. You just have to be able to adapt very very fast. Look how he adapted against Tweek's Diddy and Kola's Roy, both of whom essentially caught him off guard in different ways. Kola essentially had Leo against the ropes last time they fought, and Leo was able to eke by on good luck on his part and some misfortune on Kola's part. Now though, this set wasn't even close. You can see Kola trying to do what he did against him last time and Leo is just ready for it like a fully fortified iron fortress. Leo is just better. Not just than Kola, than everybody. Noone works half as hard and no one, not Spargo, not Tweek, is on his level. It shows everytime he takes the stage. The king has a jealous grip on his crown, and he Does. Not. Let. Go.

I wonder if Cloud would have faired better in this matchup. I know Kola’s Roy is more polished but maybe after this set he will consider practicing this matchup with Cloud.

People didn’t catch it, Leo basically didn’t use dtilt at all during the whole game. He was keeping it. Last stock on last game, dtilt to seal it. Damn

Sorry Kola, congrats on CEO! But when you gotta grab, down tilt or neutral to start up the combos with Roy, it’s really hard against Byleth and his natural alone beats all of those options let alone leads into combos to distance the match, distance and natural won and I agree with the Commentators. Kola had to play more technical and slower which is hard cuz Roy is supposed to be fast and aggressive. Good match broskis love to see it.

I've watched Kola dumpster some of the best players. He's incredible. But Roy is simply exploitable, and MkLeo showed it. He consistently edgeguarded Spargo's Aegis with dairs and nairs; what can a Roy do about it? Both of them are world class players, but this 3-0 shows that experienced Byleths with take the W 99% of the time against Roy. All the same, I will basically always root for both of them. Unless they're against Maister- and damn, do I hate MkLeo for murdering my flatboy over and over in finals lol

At least Roy was able to counter some of byleth’s edgeguarding options by recovering slightly differently, I have hope

@@danger2236 Roy is my day one main, and I've always figured this day would come. His recovery isn't bottom tier, but it's pretty limited. Going hard on edgeguards against Roy is just about always the right thing to do, and it's just starting to show.

Leo’s Byleth is just on another level. Usually Roy is a counter pick for Byleth considering how much of a rush down char he is. But he is just too good and accurate.
