Today we're heading to Breckenridge, Colorado to race the annual Firecracker 50. The Firecracker is known as a super tough race, not only because of the distance (52 miles/80km) and elevation gain (6,400ft/2000m) but because it starts at 9,500ft (2900m) and goes UP from there. While Macky is racing it solo, Syd decided to race with Coach Mike and she doesn't want to let him down. The pressure's on!

Syd I’m sorry I laughed a little, only because I could relate on having a bug go straight down the wind pipe, getting sick on a nasty drink then playing the mental game the rest of the race. Then clipping a tree and not to mention the annoying swinging gps. Glad to see you guys made it through. I enjoyed the video.

Macky is so polite while asking others to give him room to leave them in his dust. Is everyone who races mountain bikes that way?
@sydandmacky
@sydandmacky Жыл бұрын
I'd say mountain bikers as a group could use some practice in this department. The pros tend to be pretty good about it, but sometimes the amateur categories get a bit aggro, especially if it's a woman asking to pass (Syd has some horror stories). We're hoping by modeling it in our videos more people will realize it doesn't hurt to be polite!

In retrospect when getting the nasty drink mix (assuming you noticed just after the aid station) would it have made sense to turn back for water? Guess it depends on how big the time gaps were? Great racing especially going hard at that elevation - how high ru in NM?
@sydandmacky
@sydandmacky Жыл бұрын
I think in the future I will always take a swig while I ride through the aid station so I know what I'm dealing with so I can still get water instead. By the time I realized I really didn't want to turn back. We live at 7200 in Los Alamos, so we are fairly used to elevation (but everybody suffers at 11k!)
