@@mythcrab6047This is true. In my training, we call it the inner compassionate coach (as opposed to the inner critical coach). The first time I tried it was in an XCM-instead of calling myself a p.o.s. when I slid and went down (my usual approach), I did the pep talk, re-passed the folks that got ahead, and won my AG. It keeps you composed and rational, instead of, for instance, having a temper tantrum (my usual MO), burning energy, and riding stupidly.

I’ve never raced mtb’s before so to hear Syd telling the others to downshift (around the 22:50 mark in the video, right after the being off course conundrum) is really great sportsmanship. She didn’t have to warn any of the others and I think that’s really great that she did. Awesome!
@cjohnson3836

Its good sportsmanship but its also a safety matter. If someone hits that and stalls out in a tall gear it can cause a pile up with people coming down into it and someone could get hurt.

I am surprised those tires held up in Chili on those lava fields . I only use exo maxxis casings in my high desert trails . Lighter tires gets me flats . Now did I get flats on every ride ? No but enough to say I had enough . Now I have got some punctures even on exo casings but being thicker they seal up better . Now I use a 2.3 to save on weight so a technical course I think I gain an advantage over race tires .
