This really is insightful. It is also empowering to consider that we have the ability to heal ourselves. It seems to me he is also expressing how important it is to seek beyond one's current beliefs/thoughts which maintain inner suffering.

it is not thoughts it is drowning your feelings ..your negative bad feelings ... and how do you get new thoughts --how do you get new beliefs ? trauma ..ever heard of trauma ? the past affects your present right down to your cellular level. check narcissistic abuse syndrome and how the pattern repeats itself from the past into the present.

I feel this talk was very misguided and simplified. Not all addictions and alcoholism come from past issues and simply changing your thoughts wont make it magically go away. Addiction changes your brain. You're compelled to do something you dont want to do. Partly as an escape and because it provides relief for a short period of time but also because you're brain becomes wired in a way that makes it very hard to stop. It affects everyone differently. I understand the points he was making but I don't believe hes ever lived through it. It's a very complicated issue and it's not as simple as just understanding that your thoughts are not you and now I dont have to use any more. I wish it was.

This guy is too simplistic, and ignores the more complex exigencies of life, that are factors, as well. This is obviously aimed at the less intelligent, lower classes, and of course, their money.
