Centennial Park is by far and away the most popular cycling destination in Sydney. It caters to all skill levels and you will find many groups incoporating it as part of their weekly rides. Centennial Park is about 5km out of Sydney CBD and is perfect for that before work ride or training. In this video I go through how to get to Centennial Park from the city, what you can expect on the loop as well as some cafe recommendations in the local area.

I mean people give grief about doing boring laps or whaever, but it really is a great place to ride, almost 4kms is lot longer than it seems, the road surface is amazing, there's always something going on - people to look at etc. I wonder what other major cities would have such a great place to ride 10mins from the CBD.

Completely agree. And the fact you can also take your gravel/MTB as well is great

Moved from Sydney (grew up in Paddington) to Canberra many years ago. As much I love riding Centennial Park (as I grew up there), Canberra frankly leaves Sydney for dead in terms of riding - lots of dedicated cycle ways, some classic climbs right next to the CBD (Black Mtn & Mt Ainslie - both 240m elevation), 4 MTB areas within 10km of city that you can loop together with 90% dirt between them, etc. 10 minutes from CBD in most directions and you're in the countryside riding some epic routes.

Yea Canberra is really good for riding. I was there last year and very impressed by the bike lanes.

If you ever have the opportunity Stanley Park loop in Vancouver is magical in the summer. Sunsets over the mountains and ocean on a 9km seaside loop next to downtown.

I used to cycle around Centennial Park Sunday mornings. Every 5 laps or so I would exit the park and get onto Clovelly Rd and go all the way down to the car park outside the Clovelly Surf Life Saving Club.

I cycle in the CBD and at Centennial as well. Great video. Although you did miss a cafe on CP's northside - CH Pantry. Lavie & Belle is my go-to on the way to work though! Great video. It was a shame to see you not using the cycle lane on King St. I know we can ride on the road - and it's great to do so when they're empty in the early mornings, but it's great to use the facilities that were built for cyclists. Joining the cycle lane on College St by running a red light and crossing the wrong side of the road isn't a great look. Riding like that just gives the anti-cyclists people something to whine about. Not that they ever stop whining anyway, but why give them more ammo?

Agree a 10 out of 10 video. Just whole different cycling vibe to anything you'd find in Melbourne, the so called "Garden State", which sadly is just in a "state" these days and a sad one at that. Great work thanks

Loved this one. Have just got to Sydney and Centennial is already important for me. Great cafe reccs. I end up riding on the road and ignoring the cycle-lanes, because they put you out on the left when you need to turn right, and vice versa. Too dangerous, too inconvenient.

Thanks mate! I agree about the cycle lanes. If you’re willing to wait at all the traffic lights for the signal then it’s okay…but no one is that patient.

Didn't mention the 30kmh speed limit (cough). Rangers will pull over cyclists going over the limit so something to watch out for. My strategy for avoiding being caught is to cruise just over 30kmh on the main loop and then do VO2 efforts on the cats ears every loop, alternating between going up the left and right sides, each time. You can then get a sort of over/under pattern going.

The Cats Ears used to be part of a race circuit. Start / finish opposite Cafe. Cats Ears, right at bottom of hill back onto main circuit (wrong way). Australian Road Race last held there about 1984. State Champs & then Sydney Metro race 100km

I watched a race there once, maybe early 2000s. It was brutal, they went uphill past the Parkes statue full gas, half the field were dropped before the first corner up at the playground.
