For anyone outside of the area wondering, this is as good as Deadman's gets. Its a weird wave that requires the perfect combination of swell direction, period and tide to produce anything good, but when it does...this is what you get. Only happens once or twice a year. Rest of the time its just big, unruly and the sections don't line up well enough to produce a good barrel. Hats off to the gents though, it breaks close to the rocks and if you come off, as many of these guys do, the current and white water push you straight into the rocks. Navigating the step in conditions like this is as difficult as Solander.

First up, check out another huge surf in Sydney from 6 to 9 May 2023, with the largest day being Monday the 8th May, 2023. Sydney has a bizzare coast line. Australia has a short continental shelf. This means when big swells hit, the wave 'jacks up,' ( i.e. builds up immensely) from 6 to 10 or 12 feet within seconds ! If you add rock or reef like here at Deadman's, you get huge hard-hitting surf AND barrels within barrels.

What is it called when the wave has sort of a new wave forming right at the bottom? I saw all these guys kept getting thrown by it.
@ausrawsurf6 ай бұрын
The little inside wave is formed from a boil in the water, caused by the reef. Some people call it a double up or just a step.
