As a trained musician and studied music/audio stuff - you literally hear your own voice through your head more than your ears. Which is why what you heard of your own voice, is almost always very different than what other people hear of your voice. Yes recording and then listen back is the best way to find out how your voice/singing sound. It's just how audio sound works. However, there's a massive false belief that you either born singer or you're not - no. Everyone have to train themselves into a singer. What you'll find very often are people who are fortunate in the way that their normal voice actually profile matches well with the music they listen to and as they sing, they end up fairly decent. And on the contrary, if your normal voice profile doesn't match well with the music you like listen to, you will have a much much harder time. That is though, NOT to say that you can't sing your favourite music ever. You can, but you have to essentially level up your basic skill before you can branch off and specialize in the skill tree branch (genre/style) of your choice. It's a painful and slow experience but totally doable. Effort matters hell lot more. Also the language you speak (mother tongue) and accent matters a lot. There is a certain way you need to pronounce words to make singing way way easier. Unless you learn that, you will suck at singing. Learn this the hard way lol

@@TherealDEXIL Never too late. You can learn to sing at age 45 and still be just fine. Just need consistent practice (15 minutes is plenty enough), know what you're doing and patience (you're going to become an amazing singer in a week), just like anything else.

As someone who also is a trained musician and studied sound engineering - I disagree with you, there is definitely without a doubt NATURAL talent some people have - if not most famous singers, can you learn to sing? for sure - but it's never gonna be as easy as ALREADY having talent for it. To say that with effort alone you can be as good as legends like michael jackson for example is just plain false - there are literal singers who try and can't get there.

I had a class in school that essentially forced me to sing in front of anyone who wanted to show up to the open show…. The teacher INSISTED one of us had to sing for this class even though we all just played instruments. (It was a garage band class) it was about 500 people and I have PTSD from that shite
