this was her response to people saying it gives positive exposure to gc: "genuinely how does this give us any positive exposure when the team that's representing the scene to such a massive degree is a fucking content team and 1 actual player" - @/jellyfishval
@kurai8437
@kurai8437 Жыл бұрын
@@jinri_p1042 Dem, people seriously need a reality check. You can't get positive exposure if you dont get exposure at all. To be fair, there's half an argument that the exposure it brings isnt the kind of exposure you want for a tournament. The problem with this argument is twofold. Professionalism is important for any competition, but the way it is approached to e-Sports is fundamentally different from the classic sport scene because the target audience is different, so while having streamers competing isnt strictly "professional and serious", there's also a lot of leeway in considering what is and what isnt professional, especially so since its a NEW tournament (which directly implies it's not yet fully established and therefore prone to changes). All of the professionalism talk is also rendered useless by the second issue, where without exposure, you would have no tournament at all in the next future. It doesnt matter what kind of exposure you get, if you get people talking about your product, sooner or later the people that are actually interested in it will flock to it, and THEN you will have an audience for the kind of content you wanna put out. If you dont establish a viewerbase, it will die out simply because the people that would be interested in it will never hear about it. It's why you're bombarded by ads everywhere. Does anyone actually like ads? I highly doubt it. So they arent getting the right kind of exposure right? Well then why do billions of dollars get spent for the "wrong" kind of exposure?

@DanteLovesPizza
@DanteLovesPizza Жыл бұрын
People who complain just don't know how reality works. Content creators bring viewership. Plenty of people wouldn't otherwise know about this tournament, let alone the teams. You think teams with no viewers and supporters will last? Even if they become champions, they're not going to last. Did you not learn that from traditional sports? If you want a successful industry, you need to bring the attention to it, and content creators are doing that. Why don't female football players earn nearly as much money as male football players? Because there's no viewership, no one is watching it. There's literally no funds from fans and supporters buying tickets, merchandise, nothing. A champion no one has heard of is not making more money than a loser everyone has heard of. The best female football player in the world who has won the women's World Cup makes less in a month than Ronaldo, who hasn't won the World Cup, does in a day. Reality check, money doesn't fall from trees or rain down from the sky, it's economics.
@joaonorberto6282
@joaonorberto6282 Жыл бұрын
To add to that, in Europe, where sports clubs have football teams, basket teams, hoquey teams, e-sports teams, etc, both male and female, all those other teams that aren't football have a base of viewers and supporters that come from the fans of the club. Having more viewrs is good for any starting sport...

I know these streamers aren't on the same level as pro players atm, BUT it is abundantly clear that e-sport orgs don't make *any* money. It's a HUGE loss to make an esports team. So, including streamers who can pull more sponsorships and stuff can actually help with funding these uber expensive leagues.
@oldmatttv

Not saying that this will be the beginning of anything or the approach of the future, but esports needs a massive overhaul. Valorant has definitely reached a more casual audience, which is great. But the scene overall does not work at the moment and needs to be rethought. I think people like Toast and even Charlie and Lud have (and of course these girls and everyone else involved) have a good chance of being a part of that change to make esports a more viable business and just more mainstream overall.

I watched one of them keep on insisting they were completely respectful and not jealous, with no empathy for the impact of their actions -- e.g. hurting people like Syd expressed -- and not even realizing exactly the insight that Syd called out that was plain to see from the facts and reality everybody else knew: they were just upset they didn't get on Toast's team, because they thought that they deserved it.

Men do it too but to a much lesser extent, we know that competition is competition, even if DSG team takes the spot it means they were better than the others? Are you that not confident in yourself that any amount of competition has you calling it unfair? But alas this DSG team brings nothing but spotlight and more attention to GC. Its only wins and no cons. Also this goes huge in even established sports like basketball and football. Female players have refused regulation changes of smallers balls, pitches or shorter rim size just to be the same as men when accepting our physical differences could make up for much more enjoyable viewing experience for fans and draw higher views and more money.

Watching without the attachment isn't exciting to most people. That is why many people will watch their football team's games, but not other teams. Ludwig and Toast make the game interesting for their fans. And when they get eliminated, people may stick around to watch the other teams. For such a young esport, this is a great way to grow the fanbase. Both of them are benefiting the scene and that will mean more viewers and more money for the players. This is a good thing for them, if they only think about it.

well there are clearly set pre-reqs, being ascendant, and half the team was boosted to that rank

But why does it matter it's still an open qualifier anyone with ascendant or above can take part. Even if they lose horribly it's still a fun event to take part in. I mean I didn't even know what gc was and I heard about it from this team

Okay. Yes it’s an open qualifier. Yes the minimum rank is ascendant. Half the team is boosted to ascendant. With that logic let me get some pro to also boost my diamond ass to immortal so I can qualify for a team for open qualifier challenger league.
