I'd forgotten how primitive things were back then. I'd also forgotten how beautiful the Superbirds were. I could listen to the deep bellow of the 351Cs all day. Thanks for the post.

These were forging memories to a young blonde haired little aussie larrikin at 7yrs old.. I went on to buy myself one of these beautiful big Falcon coupes at 19, after drooling over them every year watching this great race.. should never have sold it.. I've missed it every day ever since...that was 1988.. worst decision of my life..LOL

I remember hearing about rumors the local lads would head up bathurst during off season and buried boxes of alcohol, then when race is on thay would set up tent on top of alcohol and dig it up .around the top of the mountain
@simonkevnorris Жыл бұрын
I've heard similar stories. I think the motor cycle race at Easter was even more interesting. I heard stories about the police station on the top of the mountain was put under siege several times.

Why was it necessary to hide alcohol? Was it banned to the spectators at that time?

Also, how on earth would you police that? Its like the war on drugs, just a pointless waste of time and money.

Evan Green was my all time favourite motoring journalist & race commentator. Will Hagon was a stalwart of car & motorcycle racing commentary. It was he who noticed Barry Sheene spectating a televised race at Surfers Paradise Raceway, and invited him up into the commentary booth. Barry's commentary career was born that day.

Both Evan Green & Will Hagon sounded amazingly alike. Evan Green was a brilliant Motor Sport commentator. Will Hagon commentated the Bathurst 1000 on Channel 7 from 1965-1975 before switching to the ABC.

Such a shame so little of this race is available I'd love to see the whole race but unfortunately this is all there is available Brock was ahead by 6 laps by lap 114 I think it was till the motor blue up first Bathurst with l34 they were miles ahead of the Ford's this year in qualifying it was about 4 seconds a lap faster fuck those hdt toranas sounded fantastic with those webbers they had about 380hp in 1974 I'd love to have the hdt motor in my car may not be considered fast at all these days but I don't care

WTF are you on about ? This is not the race Brock was ahead by 6 laps or won by 6 laps. WHY even turn a Ford victory into dribbling about Holden ?
@girlsblouse7866 Жыл бұрын
@@rodneyjones4890 Yeah the LH L34 was a bucket of shit, poorly constructed, massive understeer, and prone to oil surge. ''Agricultural'' would be a kind way to describe it. A mate had one of the Big Tanks but with a bombed out injected 308. Horrendous to drive, but Christ did it honk along, when it was on song. Give me an XA anyday! Tough lookin' cars.
