Splendid, for me, was tough to get started. The leaves would come out bad, so I had to keep cutting. Then, the roots are thinner than other aroids, so there was difficulty keeping them viable during propagation. It's not really difficult, but does need that effort and attention to look its best as you always suggest.

Doing my 1st time chop an extend soon with the same plant, so this was very helpful. I'm not gonna lie I'm terrified, this thing has been my baby and I'm so afraid somethings gonna go wrong. It's not nearly as big as yours and it's in semi-hydro so I'm worried the root system isn't quite there, but I'm running out of room so it needs to be done! Wish I found this method sooner so I could prepare a lil bit, but better late than never!

So gorgeous. I love the look of a moss pole, however, I found it to be very messy. My philodendron never rooted into the pole and while trying to keep the pole moist I felt like I was over watering the plant. How do you keep the pole moist without over watering the pot the plant is in? Maybe I will try again, your plant collection is mesmerizing.❤️I’m having wonderful results using pon and semi hydro with my alocasias, anthuriums and now my philodendron el choco red. My el choco is definitely needing something to climb…

😳 I have I think 6 cuttings on my Glorious moss pole. She is already quite crowded and the leaves are only about 8 inches.. She’s growing SO FAST! I don’t know what to do now that she’s rooted and probably overcrowded, but WOW is she lush. Like what pole? I can’t see it through all her thiccc foliage 💅🌿💁‍♀️
@ChronaWyvr
@ChronaWyvr 2 ай бұрын
My Verrucosum has 5 plants on the pole, I believe, and she looks quite good with that many, but I’m sure I’ll have the same overcrowding issue when the leaves get over 10” or so… Meanwhile my Melano who is older than all of them has 3 cuttings and relatively small leaves. She is so difficult to size up. I’ve increased humidity the past month or so and think that will help. Thanks for reading, whoever you are
@sydneyplantguy
@sydneyplantguy 2 ай бұрын
Some shoots will outperform the others so the overcrowding issue will resolve itself once u start doing chop & extends :)

I've watched some other chop and extends from you. I've utilized a lot of moss poles in my collection but when I go to chop the sections don't separate due to the roots growing down the pole. Idk if you've talked about how you deal with or prevent this but I'm curious to know what you do when the roots have grown down. I've tried just cutting them but it's always shocked or otherwise slowly killed the plant🥲. Love your plants and your vibes 💙💚

Hello Jan! Once you’d performed the chop and extend, how important is it to have the bottom part of the plant develop roots into the pot? You’d said and also shown the plant can live just off the moss pole, but do you pay special attention to make sure the moss pole remains moist at all times after the chop and extend?
@sydneyplantguy
@sydneyplantguy 3 ай бұрын
Yes :) i keep the pole moist throughout the wholw life cycle … before & after the chop :)
@gaddaitherage8204
@gaddaitherage8204 3 ай бұрын
@@sydneyplantguy thanks! So putting it into a pot w medium is basically just to provide a structural base for the newly chopped plant, and whether the roots develops inside that pot is secondary to the roots in the moss pole?
@tryitgirl928
@tryitgirl928 3 ай бұрын
Have you tried growing fully without soil on the bottom for the chops rather than sticking the base into a new substrate? Is it just for weight or do you think it does actually provide growth benefit as well? Just curious if bottom soil is necessary or if you could just do with a moss pole!
@sydneyplantguy
@sydneyplantguy 3 ай бұрын
Have grown without a pole, definitely possible but much easier if you can hang your plants. The pot provides some stability and of course more room for roots :)

Hybrid vigor only works on the first generation. The genes in the hybrid aren't the "best" of both species. Gene luck still applies. Recessive mutation genes in the parent species are not seen (phenotype) in the first generation hybrid.

oh my... how tall is she/he?!!! each leaf is the same size as your torso!!! gorgeous! (I saw photos of its flowers, look stunning too!) "Stay! stay" lol Question - after you chop it, does it split into two branches or always single branch? though I love this plant, after seeing yours... I don't think I have enough space for its full potential... so it stays on my "future big house plant list" & dream of growing it 360 XD
@sydneyplantguy

The plant is approx 2m tall :) the bottom part will most likely re-shoot in 1 or two spots post the chop. The top will keep growing from the exicting growth point

I had a single node cutting of the Splendid in April 2023 and it grew up the pole (1.8m tall) by June 2024. So I can confirm how much of a fast grower it is. Just chopped and extended last weekend. Looking forward to it being top heavy 😂 - then I know I'm doing this right.
