I didn't use Wynyard much when I lived in Sydney but I remember it as a dark hole - I see the platforms aren't much better these days. But that concourse is something else. Reminds me of the best of London Tube stations. And the sculpture - I presume after the Kings Cross fire (in London) wooden escalators were items on the removal list for safety reasons. Good to see these put to such interesting use.

I think the wooden steps were in use for years after the Kings Cross fires. They were still in use in the 2000s even

what a nice upgrade. Used to work during summer holiday in Wynyard and know the area quite well. The underground through Hunter Connection / Hunter St and maybe one day to the Metro West station. After work often went to Philip Foote in the Rocks and cooked a steak for not much money.

some longer escalators i have seen have a long flat section before ascent or descent. hearing the train voice underground feels like an earthquake.

Yes I agree., it was nice with that deep blue border. Remnants can be seen on the little used stairway from the York Street entrance down to the concourse. Parallel with new escalators.
