Hi all! I've been in Australia visiting family, hence why I disappeared for longer than usual. I tried to pre-record this video before I left, but didn't find any time to edit it. I know it's quite late to the news cycle, but I worked hard on it, so decided to post it anyway with some updated points! This is one of those topics that I find challenging to investigate, for reasons I outlined towards the end of this video. I can see clearly how rapidly gatekeeping happens and all the fun is sucked out of entertainment. Keen to hear all your thoughts when you get to that part of the video. Also - Gran Torino is terrific and if you haven't already, you should definitely see it. 😄 Also, also - I realized way too late in the game that Gal Gadot actually pronounces the "T" in her own name. But it feels a bit late to fix it now heh. Sorry about all my endless name butchering!

That’s the goal. Those who know the truth and get upset will fall off. But the media will remain openly available for future generations to “rediscover” and feel they have exposed some truth that they identify with and the context of “it’s was about diversity amongst actors” will be long gone. Which btw wouldn’t they have just a completely random assortment of actors if race was irrelevant? Like why is cleopatras entire family the same color? If it’s about diversity of actors she could have had an Asian and an Indian and Easter European and a Native American all in her family and we would just know the roles they play and not associate the race with their place in the film.

Total romantic fiction. Actually Cleopatra was a typical Ptolemy. She had at least 2 of her siblings murdered (Arsinoe and Ptolemy XIV) and was totally committed to Egypt. She was ruthless and prepared to do what ever it took to preserve her Kingdom. There is no evidence she was a warrior. She was at the battle of Actium but abandoned Marc Anthony to preserve her remaining fleet - hardly the actions of a war hero.

In my opinion, the “line” is at believability. Actors don’t have to actually be the exact same nationality as the character - they aren’t actually the character, after all. However, they need to be able to portray the character in a way where the audience is able to correctly understand and believe the character’s intended nationality. The actor *represents* that character, and needs to be able to do it accurately. If you can cast someone with the actual nationality, that’s a bonus, but it’s not strictly required as long as the right impression gets across within the show.

The only issue I have with Gal Gadot's Cleopatra, is that she's too pretty to be her. The descriptions we actually have is that she was average looking. But she was very seductive and smart hence captivating Julius Ceaser and Mark Anthony. Keep in mind these men had seen all types of women trough their military campaigns. It had to be a captivating woman that could have seduced them.

Cleopatra was smart, charming and well educated but she wasn't described as beautiful. Plain looking with a somewhat big nose. I'm really amazed that she was all this after 270 years of marrying your siblings. All the other (like her brother) had features of this. Like bulging eyes and most of them were stark raving mad. My thoughts: Stop the swap. No more Gender, Race, Sexuality, or culture swapping. I don't care if it is a Fictional character or a historical one. once the character is established, for a fiction, let it stay that way. All you do by swapping them is lose money, crate angst, and ultimately hurt your prospects for the future. It has been said before and rightly so, that if you want characters that are of different races, genders, sexualities, or cultures, then just Write Them. Don't overwrite a preexisting one. Your new character will stand on their own merits and you will be rewarded for the creativity. Your character will be original, not a token, and not an attack on someone else's work. I don't want to see a White Lesbian Irish Woman playing Black Panther any more than I want to see a Black woman playing a White, Ginger Scandinavian Mermaid. I would like to see new characters with interesting stories of any diverse background that you can imagine. Give us good, new, diverse characters, and let us enjoy them. Stop stealing history.

We know Cleopatra was black, Because she had a Child with Mark Anthony, who was a Roman Dignitary. Now according to Roman Law, It was against the law for a Roman dignitary to have sex with women other than Roman! However, when Mark Anthony saw Cleopatra, and how Black and Beautiful she was, he wanted her! The same way the white man lust over the Black Woman today, Nothing New! Now after this union Cleopatra became pregnant and a child was born on December 25th! Called Cleophas, Who is actually one of your three Jesus's spoken of in your bible! The baby's birth had to be kept a secret in Rome and in Egypt! Their union was not recognized by the Romans or Egyptians. Cleopatra was under the Cat goddess Bast! So now you get the Roman Catholic Church, which is Cat, and Holistic! Now when Cleopatra's Son, Cleophas was born, he was supposed to take the Throne at age Thirteen. But the Ancient Egyptian Refused to let him take the Throne in Egypt, Because he was Biracial, and of two different cultures! In other words, he was not accepted in Egypt or Rome! This proves that Cleopatra was indeed a Black Woman, And not some Pale Face Greek Woman the Eurocentric would have you believe! Why? Because at this point in time, Egypt was still ruled by Black-Asiatic People, Who were highly Melanated People! And we're Not, Pale Face European Greeks!

why the fuck do they keep removing the few redheaded representation we have and making them all black anyhow??? I never get to see anyone who looks like me but that doesn't matter cuz black people can't get new original movies? Make them new representation. Make historical movies out of their ancestors. Make a new black princess. Jfc. It's honestly racist towards them too, cuz in doing it Hollywood is making it really clear they think black people deserve handmedowns that are just race-swapped instead of putting in the gd effort to give them original content.

The Pyramids have also been standing there for over 30,000 years! The reason why the Eurocentrics tell you that the Pyramids is 3,000-4,000 years old, is to tie themselves into the story of them building the Pyramids! All we do is add an extra Zero to give you the correct dates of around how long the Pyramids have been standing there. Which completely removes the Eurocentrics from the story of who built the Pyramids, Bc there were No white ppl or Arabs at this point in time! There were only Negroid's walking around!!!!

Me and my friends had a great laugh when they made a very famous Norwegian Viking Håkon Jarl as a black woman that ruled a city in Denmark. This is a character almost all Scandinavians know very well.. And it become painfully clear that it was all about woke politics, and because of that it was impossible to keep looking at the serial. On top of that, Håkon Jarl was famous for believing in the Norse religion, and he was at war with Christianity. But in their attempt to rape our history, they made him a leader in a Danish city where they accepted all religions. Beside from the name, there was not a single thing about him that they did not turn up side down. Scandinavians are proud of their history, and we do not forget those who try to fake it for their own political agenda. And we know our history very well since we have it written down a very very long time back, some foreign people might even have heard about Viking saga`s... This have forced me to start making videos about Viking saga`s that will be true to the original story word for word, but this will take a long time since i am new to this. But they will come for sure. Not because i want to become a KZbinr or someone who make money on it, but because the Americans make me feel that someone MUST make some true content in between all their fake history. If i had the money and resources i would also make a lot of videos that specialised in faking the American history. For example making a video about how evil the black people there was, so the white people was forced to keep them as slaves.. Or making a documentary about Abraham Lincoln as a Chinese immigrant that ruled in Mexico and went to war with US to prevent the end of slavery. (Talking about the French.. You probably know the English propaganda about Napoleon as a tiny little man. The fact is that he was 2 centimeter taller then the average European at that time..) But as in most cases, the winner is the one that write the history most people agree to be the truth.. They often try to hide their political agenda behind wordings like (a documentary "with some artistic freedom").. And that will make most common people believe that it actually mostly is a documentary, even if the name is usually the only thing that is historically correct and absolutely everything else is a lie to promote their own modern political agenda.

Ofc there was traffic and marriages between them. People wandering, moving, bought and sold. One, for me, interesting historic thing is that when slave market was big (1600s) and Crimea was the spot for selling slaves not only black africans were brought there to be sold, but also whites from the north (Finland and sweden). The best price were people who were most black.. or most whilte with blue eyes ans blonde hair. So high demand that those kids (usually kids) disappearee before marketplace. We always joke that no matter what happened and wher, there was always a Finn included.

Rome imported many slaves from their colonies to use in a variety of roles, and often adding local people to their far flung armies. But they still would have been very much a minority instead of a significant part of the population. Possibly excepting the gladiators/slaves since the common people wanted to see unusual things killing each other for their entertainment. 😕 And the first example I can think of for an -Limey- -Brit- Englishman who did a good job portraying an American accent was Hugh Laurie in House. But I've liked him since I saw Fry and him playing Lords Snot and Monty in The Young Ones. 😀 You may be a weirdo, but you're one of my absolute favorites. 😀 Great job Sydney!

Perhaps the point is that Netflix would have grizzly bears portray polar bears? Essentially black washing them? Yes polar bears have white translucent hair but dark skin (making them bi-racial?).

@@thomasleemullins4372 Lets be serious , most important thing is to know their pronouns right ? he/angry/killed me ? lol Yeah you're correct but as far as I know Grizzly is cousin of polar bear. Here in central Europe we have Ursa Minor , not so big 6 feet max standing on both legs if male and they are brown , didn't really check skin but nose is black yes. Imagine hiring Ursa Minor to play Gruzzly !!! Identity politics seems to be secular religion so I'll just feed them to the lions instead using pronouns. I don't have to talk to people who use pronouns and they can't make me. Let's hope madness ends before we get cyber middle ages. I'm not really that much religious but I respect all religions and people who are but man did religious in the West drop the ball. Instead preaching to young people harder they accept LGBTQ identity politics madness. That's a first time I know Christian church lost ideology "battle". As not religious person I'm not inclined to turn other cheek if I see biological man attacking women or older men I go Grizzly on them and sooner men realize this is our problem to deal with (with minimum of violence if possible) the better.

Coming from an avid reader of ancient Egyptian culture for near 40 years of my life, I have read books that had pics of actual papyrus with pics of how they showed themselves and they were merely like a white person with a permanent tan. There were dark Africans in Egypt but they rarely left the palaces of the Pharoah, because they were usually gifts.

Its sad that 'Diverse' had just become shorthand for black, queer or female (or all three at once). Americans on the internet and in Hollywood are so embarrassing😭Please, other countries, most of us aren't that narrow minded or self centered! We appreciate you as you are, and as your history truly is! (Sidenote, I'm curious what historical figures other people would want to see in a big budget production. My top two at the moment would be Benedict Arnold and Toussaint Louverture. Played by appropriately cast actors, of course)

True, and as a white woman I'm often interested to notice that in settings where it's usually a white male and a white female it is generally the white female that gets replaced while the white dude gets to stay in place, albeit sometimes reduced to some bumbling idiot crying in a feotal position over a spider or smt.

Yeah I noticed the same thing too. Diversity means black woman. If they are straight, they always have to be in an interracial relationship with a white man. I just find it funny how people will complain about colonialism and European standards of beauty but then turn around and ensure black women in movies are in interracial relationships almost as if they trying to use white men to tell everyone else that black women are desirable.

I tend to be a purist when it comes to film/TV depictions of pre-existing people, fiction or nonfiction. It really bugs me when a book I love with characters I enjoy is dramatically changed because "they're not real so it doesn't matter". Yes, it does matter. It matters a lot. The reason you chose to make that book into a movie is because people liked it AS IT WAS! They weren't reading it and thinking, "Boy this would be better if the main character wasn't a man." If they read the book and didn't enjoy the male main character, they wouldn't have continued reading it. Who has time to read stuff they don't enjoy? You don't change the characters and, while I make allowances for things in books that might be difficult to depict onscreen, you don't change the backgrounds. If you don't like who a character is or the canon of that book, then don't make it into a movie! When it comes to historical figures, if you claim to be presenting facts, then you had better be presenting historical facts. I don't accept random unsupported statements from my students when they write essays. You can't just have someone say, "Well, I imagine it this way." So what? Your imagination is not historical validity. Stop trying to steal other cultures' histories and embrace your own! And no, that doesn't mean you can't study other cultures. You should. I specialized in medieval Islam and ancient Greece and Rome. I'm not Muslim and I'm not from any of those places, but I love to learn about them. They are not my culture, but they are cultures that I appreciate and it really angers me when someone deliberately gets it wrong and then tries to claim that I'm the one who's wrong because I want the history to be correct.

I've been saying this was gonna happen for years. It started with "historical fiction" (TV shows, videogames, movies): all presenting "revisioned" versions of "history" with lots of female warriors, incredibly diverse medieval nations, etc. And everytime someone called out the trend, people scoffed and said: "It's fiction. It doesn't have to be accurate!". I said it was only a matter of time before they moved to documentaries and attempted to revision ACTUAL history. And now here we are. Go on: try and deny there's an agenda, now.
