Sydvang Skaring 2 Norwegian Tunnel Tent Wildcamp

With my big lad and Honey the Dog we set off to an uncharted secret location in Northumberland for a good rough hike, overnight camp and some good food. It was an opportunity to test the Sydvang tent. Is it a lower cost rival to the Fjallraven abisko shape 2?
It's the launch of my logo and new video intro too.
The logo is all about peace with my dog in the hills.
The intro video with the mountain is all about getting high (by whatever means and no matter how high) in the hills. The mountain itself is a good likeness of the Tour Ronde in the French alps that I climbed a few years ago via its North Face. Fantastic climb and one to remember.

I used my sydvang skaring tent last summer in heavy rain. The only time it got wet inside the tent was when it had rained so much that the water flowed under the tent and made some of my clothing wet in the entrance but the inner part of the tent was still dry! Thats really impressive!

Got mine in the mail yesterday, and I am very impressed by the quality and workmanship of this budget tent. Should be a good tent for the coming fishing trips in the mountains!

Great Dave. Like your calm voice. There is now a Sydvang footprint for this tent, also to the 3p tent. The 3p has 5000mm innertent ground floor, Together 10000mm :-) Just ordered the 3p. Thank you! You made me buy it.

@@Fellmandave1 I usually camp during April/May to October/November, but maybe I should try winter as well… I actually did by a winter sleeping bag a year ago, but have never used it. Do you think the Sydvang tent would be ok for camping in the snow? I actually bought the tent now in preparation for the spring. I got a really good deal (I think) at about 280 Euros (2999 SEK) for the Ultralight version of the tent.

Thank you guys, great job on the tent, really useful help and details. Ventilation was more than adequate considering you were up in the clouds more or less. Wanted to know about the cooking area inside, yet you did not disappoint, my hat is now off! Think you should defiantly do more reviews and try testing gear.

Enjoyed that 👍🏻I do like the tent, Ive always been put off by sil nylon tents because of the stretch you were talking about. I don't want to have to re tension it. Obviously it has benefits of being lighter ect.. I am eyeing up the polyester version. I have a marmot haldor 2 which I like because I can choose to remove the large front porch. But it's heavier than your skaring. My main tent is a salewa litetrek 2 had it years and it's great definitley reccomend.

Thank you for a comprehensive and nice review! Field test beats the unboxing and guessing ones from someones living room 👍 I belive Sydvang is a new brand owned completly by Outnorth, same goes for Urberg and FÅK. Not premium products but as far as Ive tried some of those brands gear, my conclusion is that you get alot for a bargain price but they are no where close to Fjällräven, Exped, Hilleberg etc. Cheers from Sweden 🇸🇪

Hi, thanks for the comment.the camera is a Hero 8, but I feel its the sound that makes a difference. Having struggled with the rode video micro, I eventually started using the Comica boom X wireless. A bit fiddly and an extra step, but worth it for the sound and cheaper than the equivalent rode wirless set up. Cheers again

Been contemplating a tunnel tent, looking at the Helsport superlight, Hilleberg Nallo GT and Fjellreven Abisko Shape series of tents. Never gave the Sydvang much thought (I own a Tarp from them), but this tent looks well built from what I see in your videos, and at 250gbp (sale) for the 3p its hard to turn down. Just worried the winds might kill it… any wear and tear yet?

I just ordered their four season tent for three person. I hope it won't be a disappointment. At least that tent of yours looks decent. It is crazy "similar" Hilleberg costs 5x as much as Sydvang tent.

@@Fellmandave1 I got the tent and pitched it for the first time couple of days ago. There is a short presentation of it in my channel. In general it seems like a decent tent. Workmanship of it is very good indeed and materials are good also. 40D silnylon feels a lot like Hilleberg Kerlon fabric. DAC poles are same as Hilleberg (and many other) uses, zips are YKK. Design of tent is simple. I guess it is a copy of Helsport Spitsbergen

Great video! Im looking to buy the cheaper version of this tent, so Sydvang Skaring 2 not a light weight one. How does those to compare? Also for the same price i can buy a Nordisk Halland 2 (not the lw, the standard one). Which one would you recommend? Im planning some hiking in northen Sweden in summer. (although its summer it could me very windy and somewhat cold. Thanks!

Well the sydvang would only be 200g more for all that extra space to use in the rain or to be sociable. I have not used the halland, but on paper it would be the sydvang. In my latest video you can see the sydvang used socially.

Yes mate. Really like it, the quality is up there. Very similar to the abisko shape 2, only problem with the extended porch design is the lack of views out. Hard to get hold of sydvangs now though post Brexit. Last time I asked Outnorth were no longer sending to the UK
