I have an X7 and do rigid tapping all the time and never had a stall. May I suggest you use TG1 spiral flute machine taps as well as using a compression/tension tap holder...it is just good insurance.

Definitely make some pallets with normal vises on them. Super handy. I have the PPS and my go to pallet for prototyping is a 10X16 with 3 cheap 3" vises off Amazon. They're all trammed on the pallet, and shimmed to be less than .01mm off in Z across the 3. I have another pallet with 2 3" vises setup the same way. I know you're using the MPS, but a double vise pallet with some 3" vises is super handy. Move jaws to outside position and you can hold 8" wide stock up to 16" across them. Or have an OP1 and OP2 (maybe with soft jaws) on the two vises. Several of the products I've made I went into production on the 3" vise pallets and then got dedicated pallets with denser fixtures once I knew they would sell.

On the drill, I would add a dwell or a shallow peck every .500". Just try and not allow a chip to get pinched in between the drill and material if pecking.

Hi, I have a X7 2020 model with Siemens control and 3 phase. I was quite surprised to hear the difference between your mill in the cut and drilling compared to the extra HP I’m lucky to have on the 3 phase model. My spindle would not have slowed at all with that drill or EM. Great job, and I look forward to more videos you make.

Hi and thanks for the video I find that I get better results strait off by using feeds and speeds out of HSM Advisor as they seem to be a lot closer to spot on than Fusion 360 S & F but even then I some times need to fine tune them . yeh just changing to mill tapping was a smart move I think and you have more adjustment to get just the right thread fit as well . Keeping the camera lens clean would be hard with flood coolant I only use mist and air blast, the part turned out grate, well done, looking forward to your next video Cheers Bill from Australia

Again, great video. I plan on doing nearly precisely what you’ve done here. Keep it up!

The drilling was impressive, as was your surface finish. Did you slot the near/left hole? What did you use to finish the top of the pallet? Ciao, Marco.

I used adaptive clearing to remove material from the left and right of the pallet. The surface finish was from a Haas HEI end mill. I also use a Haas 2" shell mill, which gives a better surface finish.
