She sounds pristine, like glass. Watch the way she uses the mic - she's a musician who uses their voice like an instrument, not a tool. She's so on it as far as vocal control. It's awesome - in the full meaning of the word.
@michaelcoull85908 жыл бұрын
Michael O'Bryan I was wondering about that, the sound when she has the mic close to her mouth as in the 2nd song, isn't too much different from how it sounds during the 1st song when she's waving it around at waist height, just wondered how they did that. It's cool stuff anyway

i was wondering the same. there is two room mics in front of them that i imagine that engineers smashed with compression to pick up everything. that being said, she is still nailing her vocals. love it.
@exploringaudio19998 жыл бұрын
i believe her vocals are primarily mic'd by that room mic. the mic she's holding is connected to the laptop and ableton and whenever you hear her voice with delay or fx, it's because she was using that mic.

Alot of people don't realize.. he's using a sound board to make music in real time. Or a beat machine.. if you will. He didn't pop a CD in, or play something from a thumb drive. Looking around, wondering whether to give up or not, I started a conversation with the guys right next to me. They turned out to be musician friends of Sylvan Esso who had a spare guest list. the fact that he is essentially producing each track on the spot live is incredible
@jamessssssssssssss5 жыл бұрын
thats not really what he's doing. seems like he's mostly activating multiple premade loops at a time, and most of the knob twisting he's doing doesnt sound like its correlating with anything sonically. kind of pretending to do more to seem like he's not doing less. more than "just pressing play" but less than "producing on the spot" imo but hey its just the internet
@TylerBrainerd4 жыл бұрын
@@jamessssssssssssss You can read a lot of interviews about his setup. It's definitely not loops. He's triggering midi sequencing and looping live, not just triggering.
@jamessssssssssssss4 жыл бұрын
@@TylerBrainerd I'm sure in actual production he does a lot more, but in this particular performance it doesn't really seem like he's doing too much outside of activating midi sequences , just speculating
@jamessssssssssssss4 жыл бұрын
@@TylerBrainerd it's been nearly a year since I saw this video, but if memory serves me right, he hardly touches the keyboard and is mostly pushing buttons
@TylerBrainerd4 жыл бұрын
@@jamessssssssssssss he's using the keyboard as a sampler, not as a keyboard. The button pushing is what he's using to play through analog filters. it's essentially what Daft punk does too; every performance is different, from layering effects and parts, sections of songs, looping effects into each other. The Akai mostly is handling routing duties and midi parts, but it's not pre recorded audio loops.

After 8 years this is still one of those songs we blast when we remember it. I was in my later- 20’s when this came out, our oldest kid who is 15 (with autism, not that it really matters) still remembers it and loves this song. Even though he was 7 when this came out, he tries to act all cool now (he’s 16 in 2 weeks), he still loves this song and loves to dance to it when he thinks I’m not noticing (bless his sweet, innocent heart). It brings back such a good memory of our middle child as a toddler dancing, as toddlers do, and me, having just given birth to our youngest who is almost 8. This song has traveled well with our little family. 💜

What he is doing is not "easy." He's doing this all in real time. Her voice is incredible. They are, together, more than incredible.

Just lately became aware of SE. 1) She seems to have a superhuman sense of rhythm. She can keep her own time and always come up on the one against the loop, regardless of what poly-rhythm (or worse) the loops contains. 2) Very fun to watch move. 3) Effortless 4) Greatest shoes ever.

What a beautiful duo. I only wish I had discovered them sooner. I’m dying to see them live now!

the love she has in her eyes for him during come down, oh my LORD! and also, I would spend every last dollar of mine to get this version of come down on spotify. it just....it IS the embodiment of calmness. it's like a wave of serenity engulfing you, and I don't think I've ever felt that with another song the way I do with this one. I come back at the end of just about work day just for it.

Just discovered Sylvan Esso 3 days ago, and I am in love with them. I've been looking for something new and unique, and I've definitely found it. Their music is fucking amazing and they are such fun people!!

She is stunning. They are wonderful! I'm pretty sure she looked right at me at Bonaroo 2015... I'll continue to believe that anyway... My heart stopped.

I stumbled across this sound on Pandora on the FKA twigs station and was just taken by her voice. Seeing her perform the songs takes it to a whole new level for me as a listener. I admire her vocal talent and like someone else said it is effortless. They are a good match for this sound. They are currently helping me navigate a stressful work day. I really like the fact that they look like people we could go drinking with or just chill with. Just the right amount of quirky!

SnotRockets55 without a doubt. She had to ask the crowd to move, maybe they weren't worthy. Plus the bass that comes in can't really be felt in that room. Or can it? Either way I would have loved to see them perform it
