Alongside with other all-time great boxers pound for pound who I considered my favorites and my inspiration such as Ali, Tyson, Ray Leonard, Roy Jones, Holyfield, Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Crawford, Errol Spence Jr, Mayweather, Devin Haney, Shakur Stevenson, Ryan Garcia, Arturo Gatti, Mickey Ward, Usyk, Tank Davis, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Joe Frazier, Canelo, Pacquiao, Naoya Inonue, Lomachenko. Stallone and his Rocky films and seeing a lot myself in his Rocky Balboa character inspired me to box. Hell, he probably inspired most of the champions and greats and the best pound for pound of my era to start boxing in their youths and become the best at what they do. Whenever you feel low, or under appreciated of yourself, Rocky is a go-to movie and depicts on what life is when it is making you a constant punching bag but also to overcome it and be better. Not only this film is just the greatest boxing film, or the greatest sports-film in general, it showed how boxing is the best and greatest sport once you’ve taken it, it also shows the sport is the greatest metaphor in life. Stallone should be proud about himself on the enormous amount of people he inspired to box because of his masterpiece stories and movies, and also makes you think you’re literally in the movie scene yourself. ❤ I literally forgot Rocky Balboa is a movie character and treated his boxing matches and his fight scenes, especially the Apollo Creed fight and the rematch, and the Ivan Drago fight as a real matchup. Though I loved the Creed movies, it’s nothing compared to the Rocky movies. Especially the Creed III. Though I like Michael B. Jordan, I felt like the boxing matches against Damian Anderson felt a bit too much, especially since I heard the Damian Anderson matchup was inspired by Anime shows.

I feel like this is when Sylvester Stallone's public persona became more philosophical, more humble than when he was interviewed with ego and arrogance in his 30s (probably due to his peak competition with Arnold), more of a statesman/wiser older man type that he is still is today. This is what most people hope to achieve - being able to tell these stories of the glory days when you're older and look back.

@@Silmerano spoken like a clueless young person. And arrogant. Learn some manners, scumbag. You get treated the way you treat others. He is OLD, you don't get to do almost anything after a certain age, in any field. You seem clueless about ageism in EVERY industry, you won't be hired, young people always will get the job even if you got the same expertise or more experience. Why? Because employers want long-term workers, not older ones. And our brains change a lot starting in late 20s, we can't process information as fast or well as young people, and it only gets worse with age. So gain some humility and listen to the man, or don't. But you have no experience, kid. Age is a FACT, and no talent will save you, and talent withers away as well and will no longer be relevant as there are many young people with any said talent to replace you.

Rocky is a fantastic film, I love the whole story of Sly and how with hard work and an idea you can make it.... It's an interesting but I think Sly at the time had really brought something to the screen in simpler gritty times of films... Obviously in today's world a young Sly coming to the tables with Rocky... I doubt he would have even got through the door... but it's a story that shows if you can visualize it, you can make it.

A little thing I always love about Rocky,in terms of just the filmmaking, was it was one of the earliest substantial uses of the Steadicam. And a lot of that was out of convenience and getting as much as possible without having to deal with heavy dollys and tracks, etc. But how responsible did it end up being for the feel of the movie? The slow jog through the street-markets of Philly...the awkward but cute 'date' between Rocky and Adrian in the skating rink....and of course, the movie's contribution to cinematic iconography, the running up the stairs which could not have been done with anything else. It's funny because people don't often associate the early steadicam with films that are as raw and low-budget as Rocky. Many people first think of The Shining and Kubrick's visual balletics. But it really was a vital creative tool in Rocky that just kind of came out of need.

Back in the mid ‘70s there were a few great movies that had come out, ROCKY was my favorite and I actually cried in the movie theater while yelling ROCKY ROCKY ROCKY, hey I was 9 so give me a break ok. It took years later to find out that Stallone wrote it. So after watching Rocky, I went home, put on a head band and jogged around my block about 50 times till my legs cramped up. Got in trouble of cause with my father yelling at me” JOHN ITS ONLY A MOVIE”, but I didn’t care. I was ROCKY for one day. Thanks Sly

Watched Rocky 1-5 on Netflix recently. I've only seen the movies about a billion times, but I enjoy them when I get a chance to see them. The first Rocky brings me to tears every single time I watch it. When Adrian runs up to him, and regardless of what just happened, regardless of what they'd been through, all she can say in that moment is, "I love you." It completely obliterates me every time. Because it just goes to show you: no matter what--when you have the heart of the woman you love, everything else in life just doesn't matter much. Also too, it has the best training montage. The shot of him running the length of the ship in the background. And then it finishes with him running up those steps. And then he dances and cheers and celebrates. That's the heart of a champion on screen, man. Just makes you feel good. Rocky 2 gets me too. "I just wanna say one thing to my wife who's home. Yo Adrian! I did it!" And then she responds, "I love you. I love you." Man... Rocky 1 and 2 are just phenomenal films. Rocky 3, I think, is forgotten by a lot of folks. It's not as complicated a film as one and two. In the first two films, Apollo Creed is the antagonist, but he's not really a villain. You understand in the films that Apollo is just a great fighter who is trying to make a good fight and promote it well. He's not an evil man. He doesn't have hate in his heart for Rocky. He's fighting himself in both films. And there's something about that that is just remarkable. In Rocky 3, you get Clubber Lang, and the dude is just mean, man. As a result, you don't have to go far to see your want for Rocky to get his shit together and beat the crap out of him, especially after what happens to Mickey. I think had Mickey not died in 3, it wouldn't have been much of a film. It just would have been Rocky trying to beat up a dude who needed to be beat up. But you add the complexity that Rocky now had to learn how to do things on his own. It brings a lot of depth to the film that makes it a worthy successor. Rocky 4, I think, is... it's not as good as the other films. It's made really well. But it didn't have very much depth to it. Apollo dies, and Rocky has to fight Drago. I'm still not sure why he felt he had to do it. Apollo mentioned something about it being about more than just the fight--alluding to it being about America vs Russia. And I get the sense that the film was trying to portray that for the most part. I don't know. This movie was fun to watch, but it didn't feel like it had much to do with the actual characters. Rocky 5 gets a bad rap. Technically, it's not as good as the original films. Tommy Gunn is kind of a weak character to add to the story. I blame sort of the actor. I didn't like him in the role. But it's got the best character development for Rocky since Rocky 2. Rocky actually has a good arc in this film, but not much is paid to the other characters. I feel like Adrian was sort of left with not much to do in Rocky 3, 4, and 5. It's interesting to see Sly play the character, as he no longer looks like the Rocky we started with. He's got that Hollywood glamour thing going on. I don't hate this movie, but it isn't my favorite. I would, however, rate it higher than Rocky 4. I haven't seen the other Rocky films. I think there are two. The Creed films are really good, though. The first one brought me to tears to see Rocky struggle up those stairs. There were other parts I teared up during. The second on is good too, but it didn't make me tear up quite as much. I'd like to see a Creed 3. Part of me wants to see Rocky die on screen, but another part makes me want him to kind of live on forever. I don't know. I think he's done everything he needs to do. He's come full circle to become Mickey. It would be good if the next challenge Adonis faced was learning to win his own fights without Rocky in his corner.
