Awe, she is darling. I was in the third grade when I performed "Nobody" at our talent show and won. I never knew this was a country song until this video. The day of the talent show, something took over my spirit and I cried. I think because I cried they gave me the winning spot. Either way, it was a memorable and significant time of my life. Since then, I always felt like I can accomplish the impossible. "Nobody, on Nobody.... NOOOOOO BODDDYYY called TODAY" I sang it from a place in my spirit, loud and I sang it proud without knowing the true meaning of the song. Here I am in my old 40's and I can't shake that marvelous feeling when I hear the song.

Sylvia Jane Hutton (née Kirby, born December 9, 1956), known professionally by her first name Sylvia during the 1980s, is an American country music and country pop singer and songwriter. Her biggest hit, a crossover chart topper, was her single "Nobody" in 1982. It reached number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 5 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, number 9 on the Cashbox Top 100, and number 1 on the Billboard Country Singles chart. The song earned her a gold record certification and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Her other country chart hits include "Drifter" (number 1 in 1981), "Fallin' in Love", "Tumbleweed" and "Snapshot". She was named Female Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music for 1982. She is also credited with making the first "concept" music video clip to air on Country Music Television (CMT), with "The Matador".

I always interpreted the lyrics of this song not as a cheating song but a little game between a loving couple to “spice up” their relationship. In the lyrics she sings “the fact is what you say is true” meaning there truly is nobody. That may not be the intention the writers had in mind but it definitely gives it new meaning and makes it fun in a different way. Side note: This song is still going strong in three generations of my family’s playlists. My mother’s, mine and now my two daughters. ❤️
@lisathomas45812 жыл бұрын
ya, it wasn't the intent of the writer. the song is basically telling her husband that she knows that nobody is somebody. Even if the girl on the other end of the phone won't provide her name, she still exists. the singer realizes that keeping her rival, "nobody," is going to require a bit of a fight and a refusal to come in 2nd place.

The country music business like the rock or pop music industry has always been a hard struggle. Talented hard working musicians, singers and song writers spend sometimes a decade or more performing in raunchy bars or getting a measely paying recording contract that barely dents the charts. These performers barely earn a living while many others have to work a day job to pay the light bill. Many give up the dream of becoming a successful musician because the competition is so cut throat. Sylvia had had some good successes before "Nobody" but this song was played on all the country stations and pop stations nationwide for what seemed more than a year. It was popular amongst many women in college too. You really couldn't get away from Sylvia's "Nobody" if you turned on a country or pop music station in the early 1980's. So Sylvia earned this through many years of work. I like other Sylvia songs like "Tumblewood." She seems like a good decent person too. The people who age with grace after the glitter and fame have faded without becoming self absorbed are always the best sort of people. Think about all the famous country stars or rock musicians who died from overdose or drank themselves to death, have serious drug or alcohol rehab episodes, or have been divorced and remarried many times. Sylvia just keeps plugging away in her own modest way without all the drama.

This song will mean something to me forever. Back in 82 I had a boyfriend.Had no idea he was married. I found out he would take his ring off when he picked me up. We went hunting, fishing ,to casinos, worked together in the same company.. We had so much in common. When his wife found out about me, I was calling and hanging up. It also got to the point where she found a bf at her company. So I would come over to their little house and clean it. We would yell at each other on and off,but it became weird. Like we didn't notice each other anymore. It ended when she threatened to flush his grandmother's wedding ring down the toilet. Year and years later,after they had like 5 kids,I found out she finally left him when he had a bad stroke. Knowing how the marriage went when I left, I knew I would have fit right in with him running a hunting lodge and still doing his reg job. He remembers me. He can write some words and he paints. He tells me key words about atlantic city, our 4 wheeling in the mud and woods in NJ. He remembers quite a lot. I would still marry him to this day if I could. He is in a rehab home in jersey for the last 5 -6 yrs. And he STILL looks GOOD.~! Same as he did back in 82. I'm amazed. Anyway, this song was ours back then.
