No, just look at those legs! Aesthetic perfection, infinit lines, she really set the standard for those sky-high extensions and hyper arched feet we see today. And despite being so tall and extremely thin, she had gorgeous muscles like no other dancer at her time. Thank you Pam!
@PamBoehmeSimon7 жыл бұрын
You are right, she is the first I remember seeing put her foot over her head with such ease, then calmly look up at it like "yeah, my foot's up there, no biggie" ...gorgeous ballerina! Thanks for watching and so glad you enjoyed.
@KPAH1007 жыл бұрын
Please do not take offense at my thoughts. She at 11 years of age came to the ballet of sport! From the sport! In classical ballet, it is good. But...! In modern dance, Madame Guillem can see her athletic past. I think it's too heavy. Madam does not have the plasticity of the dance. This is a private opinion. I ask you not to be offended.
@JohnDoe-lp2dz7 жыл бұрын
"In classical ballet it is good?" Sure? A lot of people don´t like that, definitely. A precursor or a dancing good behaviour disturbing? That´s the question.

She was originally a gymnast and there were some sort of exchange between the French gymnastic organization and the ballet company. It is pretty amazing that she was able to become so good in ballet in three years, But then again she had all that amazing gymnastics training.

Wow! She is very young on this video and already in full command of her art which she'll perfect over the years, if that possible! An incredible amount of discipline and enormous work behind those apparent effortless moves! She is unique.
@PamBoehmeSimon7 жыл бұрын
Yes!!! So young, and with such control rarely found in someone so flexible and hyperextended. Those factors alone make it difficult for a seasoned ballerina to sometimes control herself, yet Sylvie is exquisitely in command of every fiber of her being.
@francinesicard4645 жыл бұрын
A discipline acquired with an iron will to get to that level . She wasn't called by the Brits Mademoiselle Non for nothing, she knew what she wanted and how she wanted it. She even managed her career herself. An exceptionally gifted artist, a unique ballerina.

Thank you Pam. A rare being......adore Sylvie. As she says about being a dancer 'it's who you are'. Osipova talked of wanting to know her partner's soul, and for me at least, that is what sets extraordinary dancers like Osipova, Maya, Sylvie, Sergei apart...... it's who they really are'..........they dance from the inside❤out ❤❤❤❤

Thank you for this treasure! I be been trying to find out those old shows that Maurice Béjard created for Sylvie for a while now. Am French and recall a few TV Documentaries on them. She has always been my favourite dancer, I started as a ballerina, then a gymnast. She went the opposite way, with so much talent. Thx again. I never subscribe to anything, but I will with you, am amazed for a while now with your beautiful testimonies. Keep them coming please 😁💚

This form of dance is known as contemporary ballet. It is a mixture of classical ballet and modern dance, and yes, quite often can include some very gymnastic movements. Thanks for watching and for writing. I appreciate your interest. =)

Sylvie Guillem is a good ballerina. But! There are many Russian ballerinas much better than her in ballet. I remember the noise that the media created. Because it was our response to Russian. Better than the dancer we did not have then. I'm sorry, it's true.
@PamBoehmeSimon7 жыл бұрын
I love Sylvie, but if you'll notice, I've mostly featured Russian ballerinas in my videos. Vaganova is my favorite and the graduates over the last 10-15 years are just exquisite!
@JohnDoe-lp2dz7 жыл бұрын
Good question, Mr. (or Miss) Prawda. Anyway, better the French response than the American one, on the basis of insubstantial Ballanchine´s ballerinas.
