Sym Symply 2 (Orbit) Scooter Review 2018

Seasoned rider Jeremy Broun gives his first impressions of the 2018 Sym Symply orbit 2 125cc scooter (European model). My apologies - I was told by the dealer this is a Chinese scooter when it is Taiwanese.

i have just bought one, and am waiting for the dealers to do my on-road documentation and registration so I can ride it home. The main Sym group say it is made in Taiwan, and not China.Thank you for your good review, it makes me happy I have made a good buy.

Have the 16 model. Almost 8k Km still running smooth. Hits 55mph. I keep it well maintained and have done 1.5 h journey 45 miles however haven't pushed it further and any faster. Can do 40mph all day. Starts at first always except 2 X winter had to pressed the button 3 times. Can't get better buck for money. Maintenance is cheap as it gets

mine goes 42 all i have done is take the washer out the variator, what did you do to get to 55?

I'm really loving the under seat storage. Compared to my lance Havana Classic your "space" is awesome. 5yr warrenty REALLY?

Drove a scooter rather like that, a 49 cc, from Zwolle, Netherlands city to Oslo, Norway, and back a few years ago... on average at a speed of 30km/h...,and the longer the distances the lowerthe fuel use..., don't hesitate to drive longer distances... it is fun..

Amazing! Scooters are under-rated. I drove a 1952 Matchless 500cc sidecar from England to Norway many years ago!

Nice review, I used to ride motorbikes and would like one again but can't justify the extra expense, a scooter is something I hadn't hitherto thought about and actually might be worth considering! I dont live in a city but I miss being able to just pop out on the bike and effectively being able to park it almost anywhere!

Rich 2 years on,did you get yourself a scooter? If so which scooter did you get ? I’m feeling the same as you,I no longer want or need a larger cc bike my boy racer days are long gone,but would like an easy to ride and park bike/scooter just to stay on top of my two wheeled motorised addiction 🤪

Good review Jeremy. The 5 year warranty is a good USP if the T&Cs are not unreasonable -and who is standing behind the warranty- the manufacturer, importer or dealer? Scooters make a lot of sense (Ihave a Burgman 650). I think for your declared useage an electric scooter would be fine now.

I presume the legal obligation is the UK retailer/dealer who is accountable for exercising the warranty which is offered by the Chinese manufacturer. These five year warranties are quite common so I must admit I have assumed they stick but see them as a gesture of confidence in the product because it would soon get out if the product was poor. Electric scooters are not powerful enough currently especially for the hills in my city and the weight of them.

Im about to buy a used orbit 2 It has about 26k miles Is it good ؟ do you think it's a good bike with that mileage

It depends But beyond 20k km its in the end of its life U will need to change tires soon Be very very gentle with the engine .

If 40 -45 km/h is the maximum do you thinks its more practical to get tge 50cc version that reaches max 80km/h?

This is very similar to my Lance Cabo 125, also made by Sym. I love it

I have one too. The orbit 2 has a serious design flaw. You can open the seat if you pull a cable under the left side of the seat. Cant do it on a cabo/crox

It's exactly the same as a Lance PCH.

I'm crazy looking for the variator, and I can't get it, they can help me to know where there is, I urgently need to buy ... I see online and according to what the mechanics say, you have to know which one it is, because there are two different

I hope you and the scooter are both doing well,could you please tell me if parts are easy to get for these bikes,I think that they are fantastic for the money but I am torn between buying one of these or a Honda Vision/Suzuki Address 110 as I have never ventured away from Japanese bikes,but would really like to try something different.

I havent needed to buy parts but all I can say is build quality and reliability are excellent and parts havent started rusting yet.

@@WoodomainJeremyBroun thank you for replying,it looks like a great scooter,I once had a Honda c90 and it was perfect for pottering about but the new ones are so expensive so I have set my budget for a new bike at the £2000 and the Sym and Kymco full into my budget range,I used to ride bigger bike's but find that I have a lot more pleasure riding smaller capacity bike's for their lightness and economy 👍

Only issue I had with my Sym 125 was rust and for some reason kept getting water in the fuel tank.

If you read the description and other comments you will see it has been repeatedly acknowledged that I made an error tin stating the scooter is Chinesebut but is in fact made in Tawain. Can we put this issue to bed now please!

SYM is a Taiwanese company, however they do have a factory in mainland China that they produce some of their bikes in. If your SYM says Made In China on the manufacturer's plate on the scooter somewhere, it was made in China. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Kymco (another Taiwanese scooter company that makes some engines for BMW) builds some of their bikes in their own Chinese factory. Piaggio Liberty scooters are built in Vietnam, if they were built in Italy they'd cost a lot more money. My Honda CB500X motorcycle was built in Thailand, and in 5 years I've had zero problems with it. The actual geographical location of the factory doesn't mean much as long as the parent company trains the workers and maintains the quality levels to their corporate standards.
