+B Cash Yeah I was thinking of getting one of these but seem to get all sorts of different answers for resolution that comes with this camera so it might be such low quality that it differs for each one made? Some people might just get lucky getting a better made one?

+daviangel The camera is really just a toy and isn't good for much. If you are looking to do aerial photography or video just get the Syma x8c and attach a GoPro. The x8c is fairly easy to fly in headless mode and will get about 7-8 minute flights with the GoPro attached. You need an anti-vibration mount and you're good to go.

I have replaced the stock camera on my X5C-1 with a keychain camera giving me better quality video and longer flight /recording time as recommended on other posts. Having great fun with my first quadcoptor and can highly recommend it. Still getting the hang of flying in extremely windy conditions though.

+Graham Wheeler Yes Graham high winds can really affect it and lose the quad. My first flight went into a 60 foot oak tree. Never wet my pants so many times as I have since i go my Syma - lol Or climbed so many trees. >;o)

I have owned five of the Syma X5C-1 - I lost one in the trees (my fault newbie flying in a high wind condition) and the four others had quality issues with the camera (bad video or no sound) I like the quality of your video and I'm awaiting my sixth one keeping my fingers crossed that the new one will have good quality video - I paid about $60 to 70 each in the US. I purchased extra batteries so I get about 8 min of flight with a 650ma battery with camera on and about 10 min with camera, landing gear, and blade protectors off. I love how stable it is and how it flies and for the price it's a great deal. If you do fly it outside, I would recommend removing the blade protectors since it is so light that the wind may carry it off - also fly in aggressive mode in moderate wind (under 5 mph) anything higher will carry off the X5C. It's a great quad to learn on before spending mega bucks on a professional model.

You picked a bit of vibration resonance manifesting thru the vid with the mod mount, not bad though. A prop balancer would bring up the vid quality to spot on, you're close as it is. It's a must for filming plus you get extra performance. Another tip, when you get to altitude for filming, put the rates to the lowest for slower. smoother camera movement. I'm still working on it myself; flying as a camera man. Cheers, Mike

Yes these videos are with the standard camera that comes with the X5C, it's 720p and pretty good for the size. I'd recommend this over all other quads as a starter to the hobby.

love your films you must fly every day to be this good and you are lucky not to have any wind I took mine to a park and the wind took it away from me I did get it back just before it went into a big tall tree, I cant drive any more so I find it hard to get any where different than the park.

This is an excellent demo of what can be done with a little experimentation. I'm planning to get the same quad, and I plan to mount the entire camera (minus its plastic housing) inside the quad body, with the lens aiming out the front, possibly adjustable from horizon to straight down. I'll post a video of this mod, and I'm wondering if you know of anyone who has done this.

Thanks John. The mod is certainly better at ground and low levels where the standard angle will get too much ground. The standard is pretty good for high flights though as the modded one can get too much sky, especially when you are flying in a reverse direction and the front of the quad lifts.

Hi Chad. Yes this is filmed with the standard 720p stock camera, the only modification is in the flight with the camera angle slightly modified. Generally I do get good video like this most of the time from the X5C, two things that do affect video quality are the light (it doesn't perform well in low light conditions or facing the sun) and also jittery shakey unstable flights with too much spinning about.

A very persuasive video I am very likely to buy. My impression of the two videos was that the second looked less focused. Could that be true? Maybe there was just a finger smear on the lens? Or might there have been some vibration or even interference, even tho' the angle change was slight?

+Nigel Andrews Yeah I'm thinking the onboard camera focusing is tightly tied to how it is mounted on camera so that's probably why 2nd looked worse since it had harder time autofocusing? Also not as tightly mounted with tape so maybe more sensitive to the vibrations of the drone throwing of focus might be another explanation?

Hey there, I'm waiting for my x5c-1 (very first drone) to arrive here is US from China, it'll be a while yet though. Yes, to my eye anyway, there is a notable difference and improvement in the view with the modification, seems more natural. I'm not sure but the tweak seems to have stabilized things a little (craft, camera?). The wife and dog, I assume, were captured in the vid. What does the dog think of quads flying around it's turf? I'm not worried; my dog is 15 yrs, deaf and blind. My only concern is potentially crashing into him.

Hi again, Graham here. I really like the idea of mounting the camera so its pointing straight down just for the different perspective but how would you advise someone to mount it. Im new, very new to quads so have NO experience of them. ( I'm still chuffed with the extending range mod 😉 ) by the way, i used to do a lot of cycling around Derbyshire, the strines and castleton area inparticular. Thanks vidge123. Basically for this video we filmed the video from the ground with a hand cam and the two videos from the air were filmed the Syma X5C stock cam attached to the quadcopter. The screenshots were edited in paint. We uploaded all the videos to youtube and then used the KZbin Video Editor to add the clips all together and add transitions in between the clips.

Yes but I think that's down to the time of day as darkness was starting to creep in, the video is great in the day but with no infra red it doesn't perform well in dark conditions.

Syma X6 4-Axis 2.4G 4CH RC Quadcopter to witch im unable to get a new charger for. I just don't know when the Syma 5xc is recording, now and again I get it to record but I can never remember how I did it, would be great if anyone chould tell me thank you

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but when I went to insert my card, the card just disappeared into the camera. apparently the little card holder had moved. Easy fix, remove the four screws, separate the two sides of the case and it will slip right back into place. Just make sure the lens is in the slot and the wire in the wire hole before screwing back together.

You can get them from ebay or Amazon or Banggood. There are rules, basically you should use good common sense, not fly close to people or near airports/electrical lines etc. and not fly over heavy crowded and congested areas etc.

Maybe is late now, but you need to be sure that you first stopped the recording from the tx, first to turn off the quadcopter. When the led in the camera turn green then you can turn off the quad, then the tx. At the beginning turn on the tx than the quad than the rx/quad.

Yes and it does a good job on the ground, when it's up in the sky though you don't here much over the props/motors but hearing them is useful as you can hear how they are doing and if they are cutting out.

I'm quite surprised at the video quality of the Syma. I'd say a good quad for a beginner or someone who's just getting into FPV. I just don't know why the manufacturers point the camera down so much. My little JXD 392 has a camera pointed just too low and cannot be adjusted. Great little quad to learn on however. Cheers from the United States..

Yeah it is a great quadcopter to get into the hobby with and learn on, the standard angle is good for higher up video but lower to the ground a more level angle is best. Thanks for the comment.

The reason for the low camera angle, suggested by quadcopter 101, is that the props would reflect sunlight and disturb the light coming to the lens. xtratalk1, your mod is the best I've seen, because the lens is wide angle and need not point straight ahead to include the horizon. If the camera was horizontal, there would be too much sky and it would overwhelm the auto exposure and make the ground too dark. I'd like to see a mod where somebody takes the camera apart and makes just the lens adjustable from 0-90 degrees (horizontal to vertical), like some other quad cameras. Perhaps that mod is waiting for me to do. In fact, I would ditch the camera case, install the circuit inside the quad body and mount the lens in a tiny swivel head almost where it is now, bottom front of the quad body. With the camera space free, I'd add a second battery there, wired parallel to the one in the slot, adding flying time but just a little weight, due to the camera case being subtracted.

Don't listen to Quadcopter! LOL. Just kidding. Anyway, the smaller micro sized JXD 392 does not have an issue with prop shadows. I do have the JJRC H8C ordered. I have a few cameras for that. Stay tuned to my channel and I'll be doing some flight videos and comparisons with different cameras, batteries, etc. If I really want good video, I have a Cheerson CX 20 with a $100 camera gimbal for that... MrPolymers Glad you mentioned the H8C, I was ready to buy it but read so much about motor burn, replacement - not really what I want to be doing. So now I'm back to my original love affair, the X5C, less powerful but less problems, or so I hear. I'm eager to hear how your H8C performs. I know it has more lifting power and speed than the X5C, especially minus the foam bumpers. I actually think I could get all I need (like learning to fly a quad) from the H8C before it burned motors, but I just don't know. If it wasn't for that, I'd already have one. $60, how can you go wrong?

Oh and the other question yes, sadly in the first 2 weeks we lost two Syma X5C's, but in the months and many hours of flying since we haven't lost or written off any quad. At first it's best to stay close until you get a good feel for the quad and then your good otherwise at higher altitudes it's easy to loose control or loose sense of direction and go out of range but the more hours you get in the quicker you get control and it's like riding a bike :)

I have used 650mah batteries and they extend the flight 2-3 min. I have tried to use a larger battery (over 1000mah, the problem is the bigger the battery, the heavier it is and the quad is not designed to handle that payload. (same goes with heavier better quality cameras.

Andy Z best to have extra batteries on hand and I use a timer function on my phone and set it for 8 min the swap out the batteries as needed.

Hi Shaun. Basically, using the supplied screwdriver remove the screw attaching the camera and slide it off the quad. Then you want to use a strong sticking substance like hot glue or more simple is the strong thick double sided sticky stuff I used in the video, make sure it's strong as with something like blue tack you will just end up loosing the camera. It's up to you to do some testing and decide which angle is best for you. I do think the supplied angle is good for high up filming but if you are filming at lower levels closer to the ground then a more level angle is better as otherwise you get too much ground in. You've got a few options, basically you want to be looking at small lightweight cams that use a micro sd. The mini spy keychain cams are a favourite.

We've had a few of these now and the cameras have all been about the same. Low light conditions or sun glare and a shaky flight are most often to blame for bad video footage.

Hi. Since you've owned them quite a while. Can you tell me how you tell whether the battery has been fully charged? My set is in complete mandarin and the weird USB connector only has a red light. I'm afraid to charge it overnight fearing it might explode or get damaged.

35bigbri Give it a try in different conditions. The best time of day with good sunlight (though not facing the sun direct) are the best conditions and steady flying also helps. If after a few tests every video looks poor then you may have a faulty camera which the sellers should replace.

SamNetwork Not sure of the exact payload of the X5C but it's pretty good, I've had it carry things from ta metal sparkler to a carrier bag with papers in so it can hold a lot considering how light it is.

I just got mine yesterday and was very disappointed with the camera quality in comparison with a lot of other video's I have seen on here. Did you do anything to make your video better or is mine just bad? I have the X5C-1 but my camera seems very poor. Here is a video of my first flight. Many things can affect the quality including flight stability, low light and facing the sun directly. Your camera looks OK. The best conditions are a good steady non shaky flight with good sunlight but not facing the sun directly.

Just realised, my camera does not have sound! I have the X5MS, any idea if there should be sound? Cheers! Rich
