Hi Willie, really good review. I received my new X8HG yesterday and it will not hold it's altitude and it crashed 2 blocks away. So i have contacted the buyer and I am looking for a replacement. Every review that I have seen has always been good. Keep up the good work.
@PAW61108 жыл бұрын
Hmmmmmm? That's interesting. I think the [trick] to the altitude hold on this quad is that the throttle on the controller is set to the precise threshold of a hover. That's why it's virtually at 50% (notice how it always springs back to the middle of the gimbal) which is where most quads & helis lift-off. So, I wonder if it was the controller? Keep me posted on this one so I can share your findings. Enjoy!
@gdhall53118 жыл бұрын
Hey Willie, I figured out the problem that I was having with my X8HG. I changed the mode on the transmitter to 2 and I should have stayed on 1 because on my controller mode1 is 2 so I was flying in the wrong mode. I don't know if any else has had this happen to them or not but I should have known that I was in the wrong mode. I was so frustrated with what was happening that I did not really think about it. Thanks for listening and let others know that so that they won't make the same dumb mistake I made.

Great vid Willie. I like how you painted and used different color props to help with orientation. Is the performance really that noticeable when balancing the props? Thanks for sharing! :D
@PAW61108 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out my channel and leaving a comment. I appreciate it & hope you become a subscriber. To answer your question about balancing props I would have to think that it does make a difference. Out of the package they are so far out of balance. I fly helicopters and we always balance out props, so with four of them spinning on a quad I would imagine that the more balanced they are the less vibration you're going to experience. I feel that just because it's a toy grade quad doesn't mean I have to treat it as one to not make it fly better. Enjoy!

Willie, thanks for the great video! The mods you made are the ones I will make when my X8HC arrives today! I need to know if this takes 2S or 3S batteries? The HC has hover mode, correct? Again, thanks much for the video and suppressing the music!!! Henry J
@PAW61107 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for your comment and I'm glad the video will be of help to you when your model arrives. Here's another link from my channel if you want to take your X8 to another level: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnvco6KKltWcbrM The quad takes 2S but you can find higher mAh capacity batteries that will fit in the battery slot, but more than likely you'll have to change the connector. Also, I've tried using a 3S battery and the quad will run for approx. 1 minute then the motors will stop in mid flight. I'm not sure if the board overloads or there is a voltage setting that kicks in to prevent frying everything. Here are the Syma codes: H=hover, C=camera, W=wifi, G=HD camera I hope this helps & that you consider becoming a subscriber to my channel. Enjoy!

Willie, excellent review as always. I noticed what looks like strips of aluminum tape of varying lengths on the leading edges of your props. Is that for balancing? I usually sand the underside of the unbalanced prop, but I've not been happy with my approach. The tape strips would be better. Always good to speak with a fellow USAF veteran (as my friend Nelson told me) and a fellow Hill. Ron
@PAW61108 жыл бұрын
Ronald, thanks for the comment and I hope you subscribe to my channel as I usually try to post 1-2 new videos per month. It sounds like with are distant cousins with two identical credentials: USAF & great last names! You can put sanding props in the past buy going to Lowe's/HomeDepot and buying a roll of this for $3 bucks: Reflectix 2-in x 30-ft Reflective Insulation TapeI use this stuff for EVERYTHING!! It's thinner than an eyelash, is moldable, sticks like epoxy, & you will find a thousand more uses for it around the house. It doesn't take a big piece of it to balance a prop either. I simply move a small piece in/out from the tip of the blade in order to find the correct balance...a lot easier than sanding. I hope this helps. Enjoy!

Willie, Thank you for the details. I will head to Lowe's or HD tomorrow for a roll. I've subscribed to your channel for a couple of months. Yesterday I turned on the notifications for your future posts. Keep the good information coming!

Hi Mr Hill, awesome review, love it. I have few questions. 1. I understand you have a different color in front for orientation. Why not have the same for the colored props? Have the same color in the front instead of left and right. Is it just a preference or there is a reason for that? 2. Why have 2 cameras on board? 3. Are the motors brushless or just the chesty brushed motors? Thank you in advance!
@PAW61108 жыл бұрын
John, thanks for checking out my channel & leaving a comment. I hope you're a subscriber. Here are the answers to your questions. #1: You will find the orange paint on the front of the quad is genius (I don't know why the manufacturers don't implement it) & it really works when flying LOS (line-of-sight). I've been asked numerous times about the way I use the colored props in contrast to the norm. I use my method because it adds a second orientation reference point & surprisingly even the aviation industry uses this method. On the wingtips of all airplanes the left wing has a red flashing light and the right wing has a green flashing light. (I use orange props on the left & green props on the right) So, if you're looking at an approaching/departing/passing airplane (e.g. quad) you can further figure out it's orientation. I've found two reference points are better than one when flying LOS with quads. #2: I only have one camera on-board (RunCam or Mobius). The XG has a much better camera than the previous cameras that came with the model. I've seen footage from the XG and as a professional photographer I've found it acceptable. #3: Most toy grade quads have brush motors because it keeps the price down and they can also use 1S-2S batteries which cuts down on overall weight. I hope this helps. Enjoy!

Willie, UPS delivered my SYMA X8 earlier this afternoon! Opening the box I got a big surprise..I had ordered the X8HC (champagne colored) but in the box was a red X8HG with 8mp camera and mount and all the other stuff!!!!!! Did I get lucky or what? I'm certainly not going to tell the seller they made a mistake!!!!!!! At my age, (66), I know I should be an adult and do the right thing...but being an adult doesn't always work for me! ::grinning::
@PAW61107 жыл бұрын
Oh my, that's about a $42 dollar mistake. Well, if you want to go to bed with a clear conscience, if you ordered the quad from a Chinese vendor you can offer to send it back for an exchange if they pay the return postage. I have found that they say "keep it" 'cause the return shipping cost as much as the product. I'm wearing my white hat tonight..LOL! I've flown the HG and seen the video from the camera and it's very good quality. The quad has bigger motors and flies a little slower so that you don't get to much jarring in the video. If you perform my FPV mod this could be a nice but cheap video platform for you. Enjoy!
@toddy25197 жыл бұрын
Willie, I'm betting by the time I wake up in the morning, all thoughts of guilt will have been swept away! LOL I can't do FPV because my cell phone isn't the kind that has features like that...its just a cheap cell I keep in the car in case of emergencies. I checked the battery with my battery checker and they were at 3.8 and 3.81...how perfect is that?? The funny thing is, I wanted the red colored one but settled for the champagne one...I must have been a good boy so far this year that Santa rewarded me early!!!! ::chuckling:: What was the range on this one...100 meters or less? I'll keep ya posted on my progress.
@PAW61107 жыл бұрын
You're cracking me up here!!!! The quad has good range & that shouldn't be a problem. I did modify the TX for extended range and that was disastrous, so I went back to using the original TX.

@PAW61108 жыл бұрын
There could be four reasons for this & here's what to check for & to perform: 1) Do you have the blades installed correctly? There's an arrow & letter on the top of each motor which indicates which blade is used. The thickets part of the blade should face the direction of the rotation arrow, 2) In the manual go to Page 12, Section III and level calibrate the quad, 3) Make sure that all of the trim settings are neutral, & 4) If you live in the USA use Mode 1 setting (Page 8). I hope one of these will solve your problem.

@PAW61107 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I've had several X8s and they are ALL excellent quads. This would be an practical beginner quad because of the hover feature. If you get into trouble all you have to do is let it go into hover mode. There is no return to home so don't expect it to recover from a flyaway though. The only negative comment I have is that my demo review model simply stopped flying after about 30 seconds of flight time. I've switched out the flight board with another X8 and the problem still exists. I don't know what the issue is. So.... I hope this helps. Enjoy!

Supposedly, from what Ive heard/read the X8G has slightly better motors to compensate for the added weight and I'd assume that also means more effcient battery use. Im also assuming this applies to the "Altitude Hold" versions of the X8

Tomtop has been blowing these out for $39.99 shipped from U.S. warehouse lately...can't lose at that price. One thing I would suggest is tossing those "Heavy Duty" batteries that come with it or using them in a flashlight. They will leak if you leave them in the transmitter for a long period of time and cause a lot of damage.
