How to Sharpen Woodcarving Tools - Simple Guide for Chisels, Knifes and Gouges

I honestly had never seen a video on how to keep gouges sharp. They've always made me wonder what to do. I might have to invest in some extra tools soon to add embellishments onto my turned bowls.

also, i subscribed and hit the notification bell. I just started craving today after putting it off for a long time. I kept putting it off, but I got my first knife which is a mora. Not the best knife unlike a drake's knife, but I got one anyways since I wanted to get started now.

Pretty good video. I've been struggling with getting a rezor-sharp edge on my blades, especially on gouges. I can get the tips pretty sharp, but I'm not sure how to get them that sharp. Keeping the angle on rounded gouges seems to be a challenge. And I also can't get the polishing conpound on the leather, because when I do, part of the compound gets off... What do you suggest to get the sharpening properely?

Would 1000 and 6000 combination grid stone achieve the same result as yours 1000 & 8000 combination ?

What advantage does a waterstone have over the diamond plate? Since you need a diamond plate anyways, why not just do all the sharpening with diamond plates?

I am fairly new to chisel and plane blade sharpening. Diamond plates have got me frustrated and I bought a waterstone set (800/6,000 stones). Wow, the difference. I also have a nugura and a flattening stone. It is messy but great.
