You're talking about people outside of the Bay talking to a Bay artist. But, who did Dupri elevate out of Atlanta? Luda didn't come through him. Outkast didn't come through him. Who did No ID elevate out of Chicago? Yes, he produced Common's earlier work. But, who did he elevate in Chicago? Nobody. He didn't even elevate Kanye. Now for Dre and Snoop, they have a long-running work relationship. Dre doesn't qualify as a local mentor tp Snoop. Shyt, Warren G initially had to harass Dre to listen to Snoop's demo. We don't know what would've happened if Snoop didn't pop up simultaneously as The DOC lost his voice and Dre left Ruthless. What's my point? I wouldn't say The Bay is unique in this regard. No, there's something about the over-competitiveness among people in the same area. That shyt makes people act really possessive over whatever level of success they've achieved. What I have always found crazy about California is how some cats are so quick to denounce a artist be they from LA or Compton, etc because they not from that area. But like Symba said, Xzibit is from New Mexico, Kurupt from Philly, Chino XL from either NY or NJ and so on but I've never heard that said about Pac and everybody know he from NY. Cali got to stop with that because at the end of the day these artists are putting on for CA. I've never heard a song from Xzibit where he was reppin New Mexico, it's always been LA and west coast with him. If he should be getting denounced by any place it should be NM not CA.

He left Harlem at such a young age tho. I don't even think he finished 6th in Harlem. He was 11 when he left to Baltimore. Then his mom sent him to Marin City at early 16 to stay with a friend until she could make it out there. Most of Pacs adult life was spent in Cali and that is where his game came from. Hard to say he is from NY when he left as a little boy.
