This is great! I was just thinking about that yesterday! So the synchronicity is great…. people need to take the poetic more literally especially when it comes to miracles, it’s time we understand the science behind it. In that case it’s the science of spirituality. Not the blind materialistic science. I agree with Dr. Upton, we need to have more of these conversations. Peace be upon you 🙏

Indeed. A lot of synchronicity in this for me too. Especially the last 20 minutes 😊😳❤ Polyvalent is a great word. Thanks! My entire life has been spent with the meaning of symbols. What actually happens is that they are amenable to lower or lesser interpretations. They are a ladder. We see this clearly in analogies used for teaching-or for mere practical matters. And when we learn, the symbols we read as children are transformed. The human eye is one of my favorite symbols-it is a key symbol for humans. It is only in the last few years that science has enabled seeing the meaning of the creator in it-since we discovered black holes, what the Sun is, and seeing Earth from space. It is also evidence for a higher mind behind reality. I wrote a book about it-“eye of god: language of universal mind” I have decoded many of these but I wrote this 100 page book on just this one. Its important. Having said that, I can see that in the future we may understand everything better-because the sun, the Earth, and a singularity are all themselves symbolic structures. Real for sure, but symbolic. This stuff is absolutely the future of humanity and it’s a huge hurdle to cross for human survival. Ian McGilchrist writes about the erroneous interpretations of things in civilization today and that’s part of it-people think meaning comes from humans, but it’s already there. People think writing ability comes from us-our invention-but this is a materialistic left-brain interpretation. And that becomes a “detached retina” so to speak and we end up thinking symbols are open to our own interpretations rather than having an ultimate meaning or point to natural ones because we use our own language to “spin” things-to use detached meaning out of larger context instrumentally. I appreciate the wisdom and candour of Mr Upton. His understanding and description of the subtler realms, and the ambiguity of the djinn that abide there, speak to me. Consciousness is so tricky. I believe there is a need to look to the spiritual masters of the past, and the hermetic or perennial tradition. The uap phenomenon also feels to me like old wine in new bottles. As always gentlemen, a very enjoyable discussion. Thank you.

Symbolic vs. literal perspectives were also beautifully discussed in the recent long-form conversation between Curt Jaimungal and Johnathan Pageau. I love the exchanges on NTA, but Pageau and Jaimungal also offer critical and expansive responses to the meaning crisis on their own respective channels (and might appeal to some of NTA’s followers).

Very interesting subject. I was a bit surprised that Patrick Harpur's work wasn't menitioned; this seems to be right up his alley. Maybe Dr. Mishlove could have a convrsation with him, sometime, if he hasn't already. Anyway, great video, fascinating topic!

Like someone else has said, I hope Charles Upton will get to talk with Jonathan Pageau one day. Perhaps Jeffrey could organise this? I wouldn't do it about "perennialism vs Orthodox Christianity" or something like this , I would avoid that - - I would make it perhaps on the UFO phenomena, perhaps on something similar as this video, perhaps on psychedelics, perhaps on "the symbolism of the end of times" (something about which both Upton and Pageau are experts).
