for anyone else visiting. There is a large wide street of steps leading to the upper village you missed at 7:05 where the sign points left "Symi pets" ( and just off camera other sign points in the same direction to "The Kalistrata") Those blue steps, as you found out, lead no where in particular but a lot of people take them thinking it is the kalistrata route.

Thanks for pointing that out. I saw that when I was there but wanted to take the more "rugged" way up out of curiosity. But yes that way you mention is definitely easier.

I loved it. Thanks for hiking all the way up because when I was there, it was too hot & never saw Symi from the top. Great commentary too.
@GlobalNiko3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I can’t imagine how brutal it would have been to do this in the summer as October, when I filmed this, was hot enough already. At least the sun is a little less searing in October.

Great video Nick! Looks like you def earned those shrimp at the end! 😂👨🍳🍤

Thanks Derek!! Yes I sure did enjoy them even more after that strenuous trek.

Really enjoyed this, thank you. I visited Symi once but didn’t have much time to explore. This has convinced me to take a bit more time to wander through the village during my trip in autumn.

I’m very happy my video convinced you to go back to see more of Symi! I liked it there and would go back to see more myself if I have the chance.

What a beautiful place! Were your legs sore?! I could almost feel the heat. I couldnt believe how quiet it was, people wise. Thank you for sharing it with us!
@GlobalNiko3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes I can’t imagine trying to scale this place like I did had I visited in summer. A big reason it was pretty quiet people-wise was because this was in October. It’s a small island anyway, but there definitely would have been more people if it were August.

It's SO nice hearing someone who correctly pronounces the island and the village names. Oh and don't get me started on what they call the wonderful food. (Gyro) So many people who do so-called 'tours' of different places in Greece on KZbin leave me wanting for correct pronunciations, even those who have lived in Greece for long enough they should know better. It gets downright aggravating. (insert eye roll here) BTW what type of phone plan do you use while in Greece, and how do you like it? Bob Fotopoulos
@GlobalNiko3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bob. It helps that I speak Greek pretty fluently & have my whole life. This is why I just automatically default to saying a Greek name with a Greek pronunciation because my mind just automatically switches to Greek when saying it. But I can see how those who don't would have trouble pronouncing a lot of things. For other languages, I do try to pronounce it the right way, and when I start going to other countries for this channel I'll get a chance to try pronouncing things on camera that are much harder for me to pronounce, haha.

I have Vodafone & top up as needed. Been pretty happy with it so far. Prices are good & coverage is very good even in some pretty remote parts of the country.

@@GlobalNiko I had Cosmote’s WhatsApp while in Greece recently, the first 2 weeks of October, and wasn’t real happy with it. A cousin who works for them got it for me. I couldn’t text people inside Greece. 🙄

@@GlobalNiko I really like your content. I wish I had known Greek my 1st trip in 1975. My Papou never spoke Greek or anything of his family so I’d never had the experience of growing up Greek. I can read and write it now but my vocabulary is still limited as I have no one to practice with. Apps made my recent trip the best yet.
