The number of times I've needed to figure out how to do a specific thing for a specific job I'm working on, and when I research it, I'm lead to this channel... At this point I just expect this channel to be the one that solve my problem. Thank you for your help. Cheers.

If you want to be able to edit the copies or "illusions" you made with the transform tool, go to "edit" , "expand appearance"

ik this is an old video, i swear ive used the transform method before and had no problems, but this time i can't actually get the objects im drawing to reflect relative to my line of symmetry. in order to do it like in your video i have to use the "move horizontal" slider in the transform box and set it to like -0.23 in

Thank you for such helpful technic, but i am having problem, there is still small gap in the middle using the transform reflect. Please help sir.

Transform always mirrors the stroke instead of the path itself, so probably you have rounded caps on or something like that.

So i've selected an entire lineart with the Selection Tool, then used the Reflect Tool, grabbed one anchor, but when i spin around it only spins what i've already made, NOT CREATING A COPY

Great tips, thanks! Question: once you've used the global edit, is it best practice to join the reflection into a single object for fill capability? I would like to use the global edit for a symmetrical object creation but I need a fillable path in the end, would love to hear your thoughts on the cleanest method to do that. Thank you!

Anthony Hulett I'm glad you like my videos. Pixar was amazing, I didn't work for them directly but through an agency where I was a designer at the time. But I was on a Skype call once with John Lasseter, where he was reviewing my work which was awesome 😎

@@YesImaDesigner that's still awesome! I wrote Pixar a letter back in high school when I was learning 3D design. I got a response letter that said my name, that was enough but I also got Pixar stickers! Looking forward to new videos!

Hi there, thanks so much for the helpful tutorial! I was running into an issue with the transform effect though, that is pretty annoying. Assume you have a star shaped path with a straight line down on the right. When I use the transform effect to mirror it to the right side, Illustrator always assumes the outline for mirroring, instead of the path itself. Hence it doesn't place the mirrored path at the same spot as the original, but offset so that you end up with a star that has an inner line that's (visually speaking) way thicker than the other lines of the shape. Is there a way to tell Illustrator the path instead of the stroke?
@Nalenna2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's possible, but I have a workaround for that. I simply make a horizontal and vertical line centered to my artboard (both should be at least the size of the artboard) BEFORE making the reflection effect. One line will act as a visual reminder of my mirror axis - I keep this visible but locked. The other will just be a technical addition to make sure my artwork can go over the axis and still be centered - I hide and lock this. This way it won't matter which side you draw on or if you have lines directly on the axis, everything will appear nice and mirrored.
