Still proving people wrong in 2024. I ran into issues with reflect and all that business too and I am so glad I found your awesome process for mirroring an object. It worked perfectly for my needs. Thanks!

Hear, hear! Exactly why I began my quest for a tutorial: the transform matches bevels, not the lines. Like Gabe, I couldn't find a way to match them. What a wonderful trick!

Brilliant fix, so good! Thank you! Also for people having trouble getting the live draw reflect to work(2024): the command is under Effect, Distort & Transform, Transform. I think. Also go to your Appearance panel and click on your newly created transform fx

Your method is the best one I've found! its exactly what I needed, though instead of using a circle I use a rectangle around the entire canvas.

Thanks for this! Your method is simple and very effective! I have resorted to using Fill with no stroke, then using align/distribute tools to do my best to line up the paths so the touch, then manually make corrections so I don’t have jagged corners when I use strokes once my path has been joined. It’s a process! I saw you used this technique for the sun-ray effect on another piece and I love this, I was doing something similar, but I’d have to do the math to rotate the correct amount of degrees to have symmetry… assuming I was using an even number of rays.

Wow that sounds like quite the workaround. Hopefully Adobe will improve that in a future update. And I am not a math person at all but when I start using the rotation technique with this, it sometimes requires a bit of it to get just right.

Awesome video and explanation like always, your version is the best for sure 👌 I would love to see more information about things to consider when doing design for printing (flyers, brochures etc). I'm still learning about graphic design and I'm always wondering things like: 1. Is this typeface thick enough? 2. I should always use 100 black color for text, especially with thin typeface (I always tend to use light grey which I've noticed doesn't print well) 3. Do I outline the text or not? (sometimes when outlined some letters in the text look weird on pdf) I would also like to learn InDesign and from you I'm sure it will be very easy 🤪 Omg it's the longest comment ever, sorry 🙈

wait so what is the regular shortcut for that transform popup ?
@mattkaz9604 Жыл бұрын
Even the Photoshop symmetry tool is a bit broken - if you use any interesting or dynamic brushes it won't allow them to be mirrored. Adobe need to fix these tools they should be simple.

I've watched this a few times, but cannot figure out how you keep the Transform Effect turned on when you begin a new line/object.
@addisongabe2 жыл бұрын
I'd guess your problem is making sure that your circle is grouped before adding the transform effect then clicking into that group to draw all the lines.
@marilynowen30092 жыл бұрын
@@addisongabe I made the circle into a group (by its lonesome) and put the effects onto the circle. But when I draw within the circle, the Transform effects are based on the new path, not on the center of the circle. I also tried putting the effects on the layer itself, and that centered everything on the circle (which was also the center of the artboard). But even with Smart Guides turned on, I don't get them when I start to draw within the circle, with either method.
