Rouvali decided to treat it as a serious "standard" concert piece, Germanic if you like, no matter how ironic that might sound, but I think there are layers of irony piled here. All thanks to mischievous Rouvali. His approach of slow building and emphasizing melancholical and tragical in this piece lifts it both above the usual "stigma" of applied music and above of being "chained" to moving pictures. Here it is a dramatic, tuneful, rounded concert piece having a life of its own. I think I like this very much and I think every film composer dreams about this - that his music can stand on its own. Rouvali is such a devil and a rampant seducer.

Credo che ciò valga anche per le musiche di John Williams, già inserite nei repertori da direttori quali Chailly (vedasi il concerto per Milano 2023 della Filarmonica della Scala), Harding (con la National Youth Orchestra of the USA) e Simon Rattle (con l'orchestra sinfonica della Radio Bavarese e, prim'ancora, con i Berliner Philharmoniker).

Morricone ha raccontato in un intervista, che quando ci furono i provini del trombettista per la registrazione di per un pugno di dollari appunto, Leone aveva deciso per una persona di cui adesso non ricordo il nome, mentre Morricone aveva espressamente richiesto Michele Lacerenza. Quando Michele fu convocato, sapeva al momento che non sarebbe stato preso, e Morricone ha raccontato che mentre suonava gli cadevano le lacrime per la rabbia e la delusione. Il giorno dopo sentendo la rabbia, in quelle note graffiate e drammatiche dell’esecuzione non ci furono piú dubbi . E fu preso Michele.

nice playing. but the legato doesnt fit for me. for me this doesnt capture the dramatic picture painted in the movie. I would say its to much legato in the strings but also in the trumpet solo
