+Enelabe Lacalle Yeah, this medley is a little bit too avant garde for my taste- I listen to Zelda soundtracks literally every single day and I couldn't identify those transition chunks as being part of the series at all either. It is a poem dedicated to Zelda. It goes through all Link stages. It isn't just a symphonic cover. It's art. Close your eyes, and I cant tell you, you'll see the trees, the faeries and the bushs tearing apart by Link's sword. Epona riding... It's perfect.

I actually had the chance to perform this piece (or some variation of it, as I can hear) in London this year on July 14 at the Barbican Centre. And to answer your questions, I think 99% percent of the performers (chorus and orchestra) had no idea what the hell Zelda or even a Nintendo Game was :D I knew, but my fellow choir members mostly had no clue... but I was eager to explain to them :D

It's things like this that make you really appreciate all the songs in games. Most people, when they play, they usually don't pay attention to the music and get on with their game. They don't pay attention to how much hard work people put into it to make the songs amazing. Whenever I play, I just stop what I'm doing so I can listen to the songs and pay close attention to them.
@zenith_blade32999 жыл бұрын
Fire Blaze Whenever I played a game, even as a toddler I was always interested in how the game's environements looked and how the music affected the environment.

+Fire Blaze No video game music is more immersive than than Metroid's. When you're in Maridia from Super Metroid, you see, graphically, that everything dies there, and the music tops it off. Check it out. There's also the music from the "red sand" area in Brinstar (again, from Super Metroid). That music fits the atmosphere just as well. But then I absolutely cannot forget about the Magmoor Caverns music from the first Metroid Prime. That's one of the two staple songs of Metroid! Not to mention, the menu select theme from the first Metroid Prime is truly epic.
@zenith_blade32999 жыл бұрын
True true. The Metroid series is really something else entirely. So it's pretty hard to describe the feeling XD. Nintendo is having a rough time with Mario and Samus. I don't believe they know where to go with them. I think there's some talk about another Metroid game, however, idk. They are just throwing games out there without putting much thought into it. Like the supposed Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi crossover. Have you heard about that? I'm not too impressed with it from the trailer. Even Pokemon, a really successful franchise since Red/Blue in 1995, lost it's nostalgia and the need to catch all the pokemon once Black/White was available in the US. By then, the pokedex became so large that it was almost impossible to complete. I almost filled it up to its entirety, but it was exhausting...truthfully. Metroid on the other hand, isn't tiring like Pokemon, or too kid friendly like Mario. Samus hasn't disappointed us yet. lol XD....well Other M, (sad to say) was disappointing. The only thing that kept us hooked was Ridley's development. Phantoon's appearance was nice. Most of us who hadn't played Super Metroid, (myself included) had no idea who it was. Prime was an incredible game as well. Even people who haven't played Metroid got into it through Prime. It's just hard to find good games to play nowadays.

I agree that Koji Kondo is a master of simplicity. His 25th anniversary arrangement was pure and true to the original songs. This piece reminds me of the musical score to Bambi. Although it is very good, I think when trying to make all of the songs flow as one piece there was a lot of 'fluff' added. Though some of the instruments added some cool sounds that I haven't heard before.

Warm air (breath) makes moisture condense inside relatively colder metal instruments. The player has to get it out otherwise it would noticeably affect the sound of the instrument. Many brass instruments will have a "spit valve" or "water key" in order to get the excess moisture out but french horns often require the player to rotate the horn like you see or even rmove sections of piping in order to drain the water.

josh71111 Never said it was garbage... Some of the most memorable themes have been created in 15 min. Just saying in the Nintendo era, video game music was much simpler: You had just a few simple sound waves to work with (square, triangle, etc) and so the music was simpler as well (relatively short, repeating, few instruments, etc). Now that simple Zelda theme we all know and love has been enhanced to full-blown orchestral performance. That, is what I find funny.

Talk about artistic liberty. Not saying I don't like it, but all the Zelda's been sapped out of it.

oh god it's that drummer dude again well I'm 28 minutes through this video and hoping they don't give him another long, random drum solo like they did in the Final Fantasy one but aside from that, this is a great orchestration of the Legend of Zelda music ^^
@AhOwnYou10 жыл бұрын
Hm. I don't like it. I thought I would because it's an entire orchestra, and I love them, but this do it justice I feel. It modifies the songs too much in my opinion. It is an impressive piece of work nonetheless. If I were to remove my Zelda expectations from this, then it sounds nice.

Its as if whomever composed this was trying to compose a beautiful opus to The Legend of Zelda but was stricken mad by The Great Old One, Cthulu whilst writing it. There too much going on at all times. So much unnecessary filler competing with the melody itself. It sounds so chaotic. Its as if no one ever taught the composer that sometimes Less is More and that negative space, the rests and silence between the notes can be just as powerful and moving. But no, theres always too much going on at all times that when we get to the climax, it doesn't stand out at all. Got more chills from Symphony of the Goddesses.

@Cljonesy1185 Beritone saxophone players will have to use the spit valve next to the octive key, one of the rare woodwind spit valve :D

i dont really like the arangement too much...sounds like more sound effects than music :P
@MalachiteR11 жыл бұрын
That makes no sense.
@elvdduque10 жыл бұрын
Exactly, those "effects" that you heard were played by the orchestra, that's the beauty of it.
@chocolatekawaiigirl10 жыл бұрын
MalachiteR how. do you not know what a sound effect is?
@MalachiteR10 жыл бұрын
chocolatekawaiigirl ...I do. I have a Master's of Music, which I use for my *job* designing sound effects and writing music. This is *real* music, by *real* instruments. There are no sound effects. How do *you* not know what a sound effect is?
@chocolatekawaiigirl10 жыл бұрын
MalachiteR Ok fine there wasn't enough of the original melody imo. Satisfied now?

André Kecman I disagree. If you know what the game is about, how it feels, you can reflect that in the way you perform, hence enriching the performance.

Too much counterpoint, it's like an uneasy dream. The embellishments occasionally made it feel less romantic fantasy and more soap drama but otherwise I enjoyed it.

YES that's exactly how I feel. I wish there would just be a few clean bars of a theme without fifteen variations on it following and some hellish interlude between two pretty songs like Kokiri Forest and Zelda's Lullaby. I want to feel happy, not like Link is about to die.
@uh1yssuh8 жыл бұрын

Finally found someone that explained what I was hearing.... I can barely notice the actual songs buried in SO MUCH RANDOM STUFF. Never thought I'd be disliking an orchestra video about Zelda, but this was absolutely terrible to me.

wuuuut! what have they done to the songs, they got massacred!!! holy shit, how can you mess up classic songs so bad, even when trying to change it a bit, the songs are barely recognizable now -.- i sure would like to know who the hell composed THIS particular symphony's notesheet, its terrible

Rafael Leite im actually a hardcore LoZ fan, moron you cant call a masterpiece replay "legend" if it downgrades the masterpiece lol, you dont know what classic music is all about, its not just about fun unlike other genres, its also about heritage, honor and tributes

xGoodOldSmurfehx Yeah buddy, it's a medley. It has to be different so all the themes can play together. But nice try at sounding intelligent
@reaflor9110 жыл бұрын
Not trying to be an ass or something, but the Orchestra version is there not to copy the whole 8-bit theme. If it was, they would've left a tape recorder, hooked it to a big-ass speaker, and let it play. Orchestras are here to glorify the music. Make it sound much more dynamic, or emphatic. They're there to make you /feel/ the music. Not make you feel nostalgic again. Want to feel nostalgia, play the games.
