The West Point Symphony for Band was commissioned for the West Point Sesquicentennial in 1952.

@@musicroom5238 The 7th was written in 1952 (rev. 1955) he just probably decided to use similar melodies in both works. His violin concerto uses melodies from the 7th too! kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4eZmZdpm5eUqM0 7th symphony

Not only that, the first movement of this symphony sounds like a rewrite of the first movement from his 5th. And then he includes a theme from his 1st!
